(2,208 posts)And I just knew from your title and the group that it was in EXACTLY what it was!
I would never bother with anything in the Sports group, but I just had to click your thread to verify.
She's a lovely young woman, and I hope she has a long and fruitful career.

(14,400 posts)it's nice to see someone actually look like they're having fun. Looking good while they look like they're having fun doesn't hurt either.

She did kick their asses, though.

NO! This world class athlete having the time of her life. Her enthusiasm is contagious and wonderful to watch. Plus--she kicked fucking ass.
So to the Douche who quaked in Meta about this..... Kind of Cowardly ya think?

(47,561 posts)There is no list of banned words. There is a sliding scale of community standards as applied by six random jurors at a time. Some days some words are acceptable to three out of six jurors. Other days they ain't. But "The List" don't exist.
"the list" and speculation of its existence is the funniest thing about DU! I know it doesn't officially exist, but I know that others hold "the list" as the only sacred truth of DU. Trumad used the word "douche" which is on "the list" for the HoF group - just seemed ironic to me...since he is so widely accepted by that group.

(6,278 posts)I think he posted it in Meta recently, where he went through the words he will henceforth abstain from using and also announced certain ones he would continue to employ (which includes the variants of "douchebag" .
"The list" is not a DU thing, it's a trumad thing.

It is your choice, however.

(1,439 posts)This was a juniors championship. This was the first heat. She finished 5th in the final. Her best time out of all three heats is about a second slower than world class.
So it seems like this is just some middle-of-the-pack performer running a non-competitive qualifying heat. This video is popular because she's attractive, dancing, and set to a 25 year old pop song.
Considering how little you know of the context of the athlete and her performance and considering why the video is popular it is unsurprising that you are being accused of misogyny.
I mean, where was all this excitement for Ajee Wilson who won gold, is actually world class, and ran the #2 all time HS 800m (2nd to the great Kim Gallagher) or high school sophomore Mary Cain who crushed the 1500m high school record in a strong 6th place showing? Or heck, how about Texas sophomore Morgan Snow who actually WON the 100m hurdles? When you're only interested in track or track athletes when an attractive young woman's movements are synced up with a sexually suggestive pop song then truly actions must speak louder than words.

(64,933 posts)Secondly, I have no desire to discuss how much us white males are discriminated against. (I didn't even know we were, until I went over there).
And Thirdly, how about them Pirates last night in front of another sold out crowd beating a team from Florida!!

(41,692 posts)First post in the sports forum?
She ran a hell of a race and is expected to make the next Olympic team.
I love her enthusiasm her dancing, and yeah, her beauty.
Check out the feminist forums, they loved it to.

(1,439 posts)My first post made the case that Kenenisa Bekele is the most dominant athlete in his/her sport ever. I know these things about track because I follow the sport not because I know how to use google. I'd post more about track but people seem to only care about track when somebody attractive is doing something. You've heard of Lolo Jones. How about Dawn Harper, the woman that won gold in '08 and won the trials this year?
And no, Jenneke's not expected to make the next olympic team. Could she? It's not impossible. She's a prospect that needs to improve a lot to hit that Olympic A standard. If Sally Pearson (who was running world class times at the same age) gets injured she'll have a better chance on getting in with a B standard. Australia doesn't have a lot of depth in the 100m hurdles.
But, hey, if you want to talk track I'm more than happy to join in. We can discuss top performers, competitive americans, all time greats, notable races, doping, or the state of track internationally or domestically. Since this IS the sports forum, that should be enough to get your enthusiasm up.

I love the sport.
Now do I follow it as closely as NFL football, nope.
I posted this thread because I loved the enthusiasm and fun spirited way she ran her race.
I think you should post more about track in the sports forum...you might be surprised---we do know our fucking sports in this group.

(31,174 posts)in fact, I'm going to recommend it.
It's a celebration of sport and victory. Just because some douchebag on YouTube gave it a bad title shouldn't demean its content.

(17,087 posts)But I'm sure others won't.
You'd think other people would see the danger there as well, but nooooo...
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)but disagree it's a bad title. She is dancing sexy as hell.
If you chopped up the video in two parts one w/ only dancing and only the race, which would get more views? The title accurately describes the content, IMO.
