1. The one thing these males keep missing the point

there arguments revolve around the Women aren't as good or they don't play long enough. Athletes get paid the money they do because we want to watch them play. How are the women's ratings compared to men's? What about tickets sold? That's what the arguments should focus on in deciding who gets paid what.

2. Quite frankly, not too long ago the women were doing better than the men...

Ratings-wise...not sure what it is today...besides, I'm sure more people tune in to watch Maria or Serena than would watch Simon.

What do these guys care what the women make?? Women have always been paid less then men. It's wonderful that at least one area they are making the same as the men.

How about the WNBA?? Those women will never get paid as much as the men - and they play the same length of game.

The men get the ratings...probably true, but if that's the case, and you're using that criteria, then women's tennis players definitely deserve equal pay because they are just as popular, if not more so...and it's not like them getting equal pay takes money away from what the men get.

but not say "no one". I support professional play's attendance (tv-stadium) to be the largest factor in determining salaries or tournament payouts. I support that by saying the Arena Football League players shouldn't be paid as much as NFL players. I support Women's tennis player getting paid more or paid the same based on better or equal ratings & attendance. CFL Players shouldn't be paid as much as NFL, etc.

7. Annually, there are about 8 tournaments, 4 slams and 4 1000 series...

In which both men and women compete...Tennis really doesn't stack up with other professional sports in that there is so much cross-over.

9. I was mostly referring to the argument up-thread that the WNBA should be paid as much as then men's

but I mentioned tournament payouts and how revenue should determine payments. Tennis is unique in that play in the same tournaments unlike the LPGA & PGA in the same tournaments. Anyways, I feel Women's tennis have the same or higher payments to the Men. I heard in passing that they did achieve higher ratings.

11. The women's game in tennis has always been as popular or close to as popular

compared to the men's...they really bring in the money...other than tennis, basketball and golf, can't think of any professional sport that has both leagues.

8. It should be based on the amount of $ they bring in.

In a sport like tennis, if women bring in the ratings, sponsors, and fans at the same rate as the men, they should be paid the same. If they bring in more, they should be paid more. In a sport like golf or basketball where they don't, they should be paid less. Essentially, you're paying these athletes (as a group) based on their ability to generate revenue. The more they generate, the more they should be paid regardless of gender or how much time they actually spend performing.

10. Thing is, Roger playing a match will sell out the stadium and so would Serena...

But a man ranked in the 50's would not...it can't be split just by man/woman, if it's about bringing in revenue, then a more popular player would make more even if he didn't win.

12. This is why I said "as a group" when talking about revenue.

For the men, or the women, the total prize pool should be based on how much money they generate as a group, and the amount each individual actually makes (the cut of they pool they get) should be based on performance.

I'll admit, this is easier for a sport like golf, where men and women play in separate locations and you can figure out who is generating what revenue.

for some sports ratings is a good indicator...and in tennis, the women do pull in the ratings and the crowds.
