Stakes Races 6/23/2012
2012 Mother Goose Stakes
Live Oak Plantation's Zo Impressive found herself on the lead heading into the stretch of the $300,000 Mother Goose Stakes (gr. I) at Belmont Park, and when 1-2 favorite Contested faded badly and Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) victress Believe You Can failed to menace, the daughter of Hard Spun kicked away to an upset victory June 23.
Sent off at odds of 6-1 off a runner-up finish five lengths behind Contested in the May 28 TVG Acorn Stakes (gr. I) last time out, Zo Impressive was third behind a pace set by the favorite. Contested went an opening quarter in :23.08 and the half in :46.47 while longshot Wildcat's Smile pressed in second and 5-2 second choice Believe You Can took the rail trip in fourth under jockey Rosie Napravnik.
2012 Hollywood Oaks (GII)
Less than two months removed from her maiden victory, Potesta became a graded stakes winner Saturday, edging even-money favorite Eden's Moon in the $150,000 Hollywood Oaks at Betfair Hollywood Park.
An 11 ½ length winner in her second career outing May 3, Potesta prevailed by a nose after a stretch long duel in the Grade II.
