Game of the Night: Rockies vs. Diamondbacks
It's been an ugly season for the Colorado Rockies. The Quadruple-A applicants for the third-base job have collectively played below replacement level. Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, normally one of the best defensive players in the game, had a one-week stretch where he played like the kid in Little League who was too horrible to bury in right field, so you made him the assistant mascot instead. Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla recently went the nuanced route in describing the Rockies' season: "This team," he wrote, "is a joke."
If the Rockies are a joke, Thursday's 9-7 matinee loss to the Diamondbacks was the cruelest punchline of the season.

The fifth would prove to be the turning point of the game, though, in that Todd Helton turned and ran away in horror at the scene behind first base. With the Dbacks at bat, a swarm of bees invaded a camera bay next to the Rockies dugout. The bees migrated to the dugout railing, where they sent the rest of the team ducking for cover. It seemed the bees might remain there until
OH MY GOD RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!! A beekeeper arrived, vacuumed up the bees for relocation, and the matter seemed resolved.
Except for the music choice during the beepocalypse. As the last few bees were being collected, the PA system at Coors blared, "Let It Be." This caused a raging debate for the next two innings in our section. No love for "I'm a Beeliever"? Maybe something from Sting's catalog? Or even play it straight with "Flight of the Bumblebee"?
