the longest string of strikes in the majors in at least the past 24 years, dating to 1988. The previous tops in that stretch was 30 in a row by Tim Wakefield in 1998.
"You can't get 38 strikes out of a pitching machine," Oakland outfielder Jonny Gomes said.
