Question about "Thereby Hangs a Tale" by Spencer Quinn--SPOILERS.

I listened to this on audiobook, and I must've missed something.

Almost at the end, Bernie takes Chet to a vet, and the vet mentions a biopsy. Why did Bernie
take Chet to the vet, and what was the biopsy about?

Of some sort, so the biopsy was to see if it was cancerous.
