A Long Walk Home. I love the movie.I'm soooo glad the Civil Rights Movement, and it's protests, occurred BEFORE the internet.

To me - it's the Anti The Help.
That DVD is one of my husband's many excellent movie contributions to our marriage!

You inspired us to watch this again tonight. Beautiful movie and book.
There's a scene in the movie where the grandfather encounters racism directly and he just let's an ice cream cone melt in his hand to keep his grand son safe.
There's a thread by reddread in GD about five black American men you respect.
All five of mine knew how to do that. To swallow hard sometimes to keep their children safe - but hit hard when we weren't looking.

I watched Raisin in the Sun the other night, about a week after watching A Long Walk Home I wish I could have found the original but I watched the remake. Still was a great movie but the original was better.
I did a little reading on the author, which I had done before but had forgotten. What a brave man and family.
