Is it just me ...

Or, {Random and Disconnected Rant Alert} has anyone else noticed that just about every solution/answer to just about every issue presented on DU requires, as an unspoken/unacknowledged condition, that one suspend just about every bit of real life experience that we live with on a daily basis, in order to make them seem half-way plausible?

DU is about arguing.

That's all. Argument for the sake of argument, or argument as a self-referential sport of some kind. And I like to argue. However, I do get bored with this.

Many threads devolve into personality battles, with the same people lining up against each other over and over again. This is not unique to DU, but true of many online communities.

I can leave DU for a couple of weeks, come back, and find the same people arguing about the same things, and no one's position has changed. I can come back six months later, and find the same thing. I can come back years later and find the same thing.

Like you said, I can leave for a week (which I do at a minimum these days) and come back and and see the same shit stirring trolls in GD with their same spiels and the same folks arguing with them. It is beyond tedious, I think that some of this incessant need to pontificate over nothing and argue over even less is almost pathological.

And the fact that some folks aren't happy enough to endlessly argue here, they have also taken to endlessly arguing at the loathsome Discussionist is just unfathomable to me. I don't get it. Probably never will.
