We don't tip black people, note to Virginia waitress said

"Customers at a restaurant in Virginia are rallying to support a black waitress who received a a racist note instead of a tip at the weekend.
Waitress Kelly Carter said a couple had written on the receipt: "Great service don't tip black people."
Owner Tommy Tellez told BBC News the response has been "phenomenal".
People have been dropping by the restaurant to give Ms Carter cash, Mr Tellez said, and a YouCaring campaign has raised over $300 (£245) for her."

Whilst the hate involved is beyond comprehension, the response by the greater public is very reassuring.

If they do come back, they should be seated and ignored. After an hour or two, someone can call the cops and have them removed and give them a bill saying "now you know how it feels to be black."

Humiliation often creates anger and a desire for revenge, but repaying hurtfulness with kindness has at least some potential to embarrass people into better behaviour.

My concern is that the people may now feel that they did her a favour, thus reinforcing inappropriate acts.
