A tribute to my man...

I am just astonished by how hard I'm taking this. Probably because it was so unexpected...

Easily my favorite Prince song...

He not only was a genius in every way, but inspired and nurtured so many other artists!! He was a legend with a capital L. A word that people use so often now but fits him perfectly.

I'm assuming Prince wrote it. This is so great: "Do you know what is meant by the words ... ugh, I hate to use them, they're so harsh, so ... American. You know what I mean? And yet on the other hand, they're exciting words. The words ... chili sauce."

13. 1981 - Sexuality --> Reproduction of a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
Fri Apr 22, 2016, 11:01 PM
Apr 2016

His words are prescient, even 35 years ago:

"Sexuality"

Stand up everybody, this is your life
Let me take u to another world, let me take u tonight
U don't need no money, u don't need no clothes
The Second Coming, anything goes
Sexuality is all u'll ever need
Sexuality - let your body be free

C'mon everybody, yeah, this is your life
I'm talking about a revolution we gotta organize
We don't need no segregation, we don't need no race
New age revelation, I think we got a case

I'm OK as long as u are here with me
Sexuality is all we ever need

Reproduction of a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
Reproduction of a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
Reproduction of a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
Everybody...
Reproduction of a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
One time say...
Reproduction of a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
Reproduction of a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize

We live in a world overrun by tourists
Tourists - 89 flowers on their back...inventors of the Accu-jack
They look at life through a pocket camera... What? No flash again?
They're all a bunch of double drags who teach their kids that Love is bad
Half of the staff of their brain is on vacation
Mama, are u listening?
We need a new breed - Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
Don't let your children watch television until they know how to read
Or else all they'll know how to do is cuss, fight and breed
No child is bad from the beginning... they only imitate their atmosphere
If they're in the company of tourists, alcohol and US history
What's to be expected is 3 minus 3... absolutely nothing

Stand Up, Organize
We need a new breed...Leaders, Stand Up, Organize
I wanna be in the new breed, Stand up, Organize
Sexuality is all I'll ever need
Sexuality, I'm gonna let my body be free
Sexuality is all I'll ever need
Sexuality, I'm gonna let my body be free
Sexuality

I think I'm out of shell shock a bit too. 1SBM's thread helped unleash a lot of memories and then I just wanted to keep blabbing about him. Now I'm back to winding down a bit. I know what you're feeling. It's nice knowing so many others here and around the world have similar and very personal attachments to his music. Pop Life is most definitely another of his great amazing hard to believe how good it is and the lyrics are amazing too songs.

Slave stage where his record label was doing everything they could to control him and he was just not having it.

It's hard to find many videos of his during that time. Pop Life, Alphabet Street, Sign o' the Times all of them, it's tricky to find the videos he made during that time.

I think I've finally come to grips with his death too now. It was a bit rough for a while there though.

There some hot mess of a remix of this on youtube but it is far from worthy of being included here.

I do have to admit that I always thought Purple Rain to be kind of "meh" other than a few songs...I still think of Prince's masterpieces as being the Dirty Mind, Controversy, and 1999 run.

in droves while the real classics are the ones that fewer people have actually heard?

I'd take 'Mountains' any day of the week over Purple Rain.

Don't get me wrong, I get why Purple Rain was so incredibly successful but it's no where near his best or most original/electrifying work.

They played his Musicology video 100 times over the weekend. It's a great song but what I love about it is that Prince finally allowed some sistas in his videos!!!

Yeah, I know he had the one sista that could sang in the Diamonds and Pearls stage but it was nice to see some being used as eye candy for a change.
