Welcoming African American Blogs or Sites!

Hey! Do you have any sites or blogs that you like for content concerning the African American community? Is DU your only haunt? If you don't want to post it, shoot me an email. Sometimes DU gets a bit hostile. I want to know where you go for a friendlier atmosphere. Although, our little group feels quite warm. Where do you go to let your hair down?

Now that I think about it...definitely shoot me an email.

BlogTalkRadio used to have some interesting content. I haven't been on in awhile, though.

I'll pass one along. Tonight on BlogTalkRadio, Cleo talks about the Roland Martin suspension. It'll probably be interesting. It's at 7pm.

Not much better, but better. I think most people have already seen a fairly big improvement in this place and the quality of criticism the president and the Dems gets, not to mention a lessening of the volume.

Still a ways to go but some improvements have definitely been made.

I know, right! And, I'll move on eventually. Just hand the place over to them.

I hear some of them talk about teabaggers, etc. etc. and think....hmm, I wonder if they realize that some of them scare me every bit as much as a republican right winger.

Not to mention, the fact that DU allows it...speaks volumes!!!

At least with one of those truly conservative types...you know it's coming. You can be on the alert. On DU, they just kind of sneak up on you...and attack.

DUer1: "Merry Christmas..."
DUer2: "I hate you. Don't throw your religion down my throat. Children are bad. Stay out of my womb, you breeder. God doesn't exist and you're a stupid Christian to believe in religion. People should be restricted to one child each, if they're inconsiderate enough to give birth. The president sucks and you believe in fairies. I'm glad I'm not crazy like those teabaggers. "
DUer1:

Thank God for the good ones! Some posts really make you think. Some conversations are really enlightening. I think that's why there are so many lurkers. I haven't been around long enough to spot some of the crazier ones. From time to time, I'll get an email from a concerned DUer as a heads up.

Warning: JoeSchmoo42424 is crazy as hell. It's better to steer clear.

You just killed it.

Although in some ways, these folk actually scare me more than Repubs because of the insistence that their strident fanaticism is somehow based on being "smarter," "more informed" and "more concerned with the poor and downtrodden" that everyone else. That the entire world would be a utopia if everyone just did what they said. And they wonder why a) people run, not walk, RUN away from them the vast majority of the time EVEN WHEN THEY AGREE WITH THEIR POSITIONS and b) they have never run any society in the history of the world and certainly not the society known as America.

thanks for posting it.

I tell you, the chick from Spain totally made the blogger's point and to read through her whining because the blogger checked her good just goes to show that some people will never-on purpose-get the point.

I was reminded of it while reading an argument in H&M about a racially insensitive post that a jury let stand.

"You, a white man, do not get to decide for women or people of color where sexism and racism happen or where they happen together. Not your experience and not your call."

----------------------------------------------------

Another very interesting article!

This is also what makes me just a bit uncomfortable when white males or females are so quick to call attention to racism for political reasons, also. Kind of like...ooh, here's another tool for our toolkit. I don't like that. I disliked Herman Cain for sooooo many reasons. And, yet, even so...when Lawrence O'Donnell decided to take him to task for not being a part of the civil rights movement because "his father" told him stay away from it, the hair on my neck stood up a bit. Maybe Herman was lying and was just missing in action. Maybe Herman's father really told him to stay out of trouble and stay away from marches, sit-ins, etc. I just don't know. But, I was not comfortable watching Lawrence O'Donnell essentially tell Herman Cain he just hadn't paid enough black dues.

We do it to each other all the time. And, it bugs me a little. But, watching Lawrence that night, I just couldn't sit back and cheer him on. You know. Sometimes you like watching a republican politician squirm under the harsh inquisition of reporter. Herman was usually no exception for me. Make him squirm, baby!

But, whenever his "blackness" was an issue, it just felt wrong. What gives a person the right to decide they can evaluate my black card? I am trying...with effort...not to be someone who does that. I was offended by Lawrence that day. It didn't seem to bother most of the other folk I knew. The TV interview is at the link below. I can't bear to watch it again. O'Donnell's smug look just makes me want to .... well.... I just can't watch it again.
