Related: About this forumI'm not sure why I'm posting this here... I think we're going to lose in November
Seriously, this isn't particularly AA-related at all other than in the sense that all politics is... I just can't think of another place to post it. (Hosts, do what you need to if you would rather this not be here.)
It was just... I was watching the debate (I'm in India so that was this morning rather than last night), and it really, really struck me very forcefully: we're going to lose in November.
I have no idea how we came down to the two candidates who are somehow preternaturally the most able to destroy our coalition, but the simple fact is we have. I have no idea how we came down to two people who could take issues of life and death less seriously than these two, and yet somehow we have.
Anyways. Like I said, this is probably the wrong place for this, but I couldn't think of a better place to post it. I'm an octaroon who passes, so I'll probably buy some brown shirts or something. But, Jesus: this is a bad, bad next few years I'm seeing in my head.

Is that true?
(BTW; there's nothing wrong with that: everyone has a first post, and there are plenty of group members who agree with you. I'm just curious.)
Coolest Ranger
(2,034 posts)you want to come and demand that we throw a vote to a certain candidate please don't bother. I'm tired of being disrespected by certain supporters of a certain candidate.

Interesting.

(22,336 posts)I think if there were any even slightly normal Republican candidates, they'd win, but I don't think either Bernie or Hillary will lose against any of the horrible candidates the Republcians have to offer this year.

(56,582 posts)He's my biggest worry on that side.

(31,849 posts)I have voiced my concern about Kasich from since he announced ... he is a nightmare, flying under everyone's radar.

I don't, however, think we will lose in November.
Well, I have been on the board for sometime (I just don't post often) and this IS my first time posting in this group, but I agree with your statement. I so wish we had another alternative. I think if someone who was not so argumentative, and divisive, like a Kasich, or somewhat 'in the middle' or any sane republican became the nominee, the dems would loose this thing come November.
1StrongBlackMan
(31,849 posts)But, and this is a huge, but ... given the republican field, the ONLY way I see Democrats losing the White House, regardless of who we nominate, is if we lose our, ever-loving minds. That's to say, if we stay home because our particular candidate is not the nominee.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)Fair enough. I'll let that be my mantra.

(31,849 posts)I do not put it beyond some to lose their ever loving mind!
We already see it (here on DU) with all the "I will no longer vote for the lesser of two evils" proclamations ... and the less obvious, massive emotional investment in one candidate (or the other) to the point where the one can do no wrong (is flawless) and the other can do no right ... which is exposed with every apologetic and conspiracy theory post.
{Disclaimer: I, clearly, believe that this applies to the supporters of one candidate than the other.}

b. I did hear Bernie go after Hillary on Kissinger, I liked that - i have only heard snippets
c. If Bernie supporters dont vote for Hillary if Hillary is the nominee (far far far less in reverse so I am not going to mention the reverse) and we lose, the ensuing horror will be their fault and I for one will make sure they never stop hearing about it, unless they silence me

(31,879 posts)Fell asleep. Same stuff from those two.

(31,879 posts)Because regardless of who the candidate is - you will vote from abroad.
That said - I'm afraid of Kasich. I joined his FB page today to see what he's up to.
He's gooooood in a Republican kind of way.

(20,450 posts)our throats, chasing any and all potentially viable candidates away, I knew we would lose.
I almost want Trump to win. Maybe that'll wake us up.
It's the fault of the Democratic Party! No one likes Hillary. And people may like Bernie Sanders and his platform, but Sanders cannot win! Republicans will eat him alive!

(34,648 posts)Just let Trump win so that people wake up, I hear it constantly. But Trump won't win. We'll end up with a dem just because of how absolutely insane they are. I'm watching the debate right now, bunch of creeps.

(34,648 posts)Oooh oooh!! Trump was so yelling at Bush, that was my favorite!

(24,544 posts)But Sanders' supporters and so much of the behavior of his campaign has just about done me in.
The low voter turnout in NH and Iowa shows that it's not just us. Lots and lots of people are not feeling either of these two. But we cannot lose in November. I just can't allow myself to even contemplate that.
