I was thinking of starting an OP
Berne Sanders Supporters - Post Your Bernie Pros here!
First - I think HRC is going to win in SC. Due to the racial make up and numerous discussions about that racial make up of the Democratic base in SC - it could get very contentious in the group post the election.
Second - it would give them an outlet to post every single time a black American supports Bernie and provide a 'safe space' for Sanders supporters to discuss Sanders as it relates to black Americans in the protected group.
What's in it for you?
Hosts - we can lock first timers posts and direct them to their 'safe space'.
Members - if you come here to get away from it in the rest of the site - you can trash the thread or ignore it - even though it would exist.
I'm trying to brain storm how we can keep some peace and quiet and still give Sanders supporters a safe space in the protected group.

I was just thinking of having more fun with it and stop being irritated by the doe-eyed-oh-I didn't know routine.

(31,849 posts)It offers the added benefit (for Skinner) of cutting down on all the "AA Group was soooo mean to me threads. That ought to free up a lot of band-with!

JustAnotherGen
(31,828 posts)They can go to that thread - you can trash it. You will never see it in the AA group agin.
Coolest Ranger
(2,034 posts)yea I can get on board with that.
wildeyed
(11,243 posts)The point with the threads is to MAKE this group listen, even after members have expressed their disagreement. If you send them to a thread that everyone trashed already, what is the point? There is no payoff for them. They will just find another way to disrupt.
But from a hosts POV, I guess I can see the benefit. You can send them to the primary timeout thread instead of banning them out right. Saves some drama, right?
Personally, I like it best when they just get a polite but thorough beatdown and take their ball and go home PITA for admins to deal with the butthurt, but their bad, too, for not providing proper moderation during this difficult time.

(32,342 posts)Which was kind of along the lines of "Why it is never a good idea to use Black people in your political duel" though I hadn't worked out all of the details yet. I couldn't work out how not to get a hide.

(11,243 posts)Like Madden for politics.... I was thinking about making a GDP bingo card titled "White People Telling Black People Why They Should Support Bernie Sanders". It works like debate bingo where you take a selection of popular names and phrases that get dropped and then you scan the thread to see if you can get bingo.

Initially it was going to be just Black People Who Support Bernie Sanders, but I couldn't come up with 25 names. Added fun would be trying to bait them into a statement when you got close to a bingo

(24,544 posts)Although I think we should take off Coates, Jealous, Belafonte and Ellison. Those four are actually valid reasons to consider the man unlike the rest of them.
And Michelle Alexander hasn't been all that flattering to Sanders than she was to Hillary. Though I still think her Hillary criticisms were weird. She directed alot of righteous anger at BILL'S policies at Hillary which doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me

(11,243 posts)and then took a screen shot and dropped it into Photobucket. The generator doesn't save work, but I cut pasted the content into another file to save it there.
Once there is a solid consensus on what should be in the squares, I can screen shot each card individually, number them and then people just note which card they are using so we don't get dupes.
I agree that Ellison, Jealous, etc. are notable politicians and/or intellectuals and their opinions are worthy of serious discussion. But I think that because of the way they used in most GDP debates, they can stay on. Or we need to think of a BUNCH of new stuff to add.....
Here is an update based on 1Strong's feedback. And there are many more dedicated GDP warriors than I who have a better grasp on what the current buzzwords are, so I probably missed quite a few. Probably should add Random Black Blogger to the list....

Now the big question, what do we yell instead of bingo?

(24,544 posts)Because let's be honest, that the go to phrase they use 97% of the time. Every SINGLE criticism or even attempt to discuss Sanders' votes/policies/positions IMMEDIATELY becomes "well, why do you think that Hillary would be any better!!1?!"
It is simply beyond moronic.

(11,243 posts)It is easy to change. Look, I made a new one with Bernie glasses! And added an "Intentionally Blank" space for future use. See why I never get any actual work done?

If people actually want to play, I can post the other randomized cards, or change out the categories. Or it is easy if someone else has ideas. I posted the link to the generator already. The buzzwords do shift pretty quickly.
Kind of Blue
(8,709 posts)Then I, for one, will use them until the Mods make a decision.
Nice to have a choice and thanks so much for not only making this fun but it makes the point perfectly

That is freaking awesome but you straight up clowned some people with this bit here:

(11,243 posts)It's funny, but also true. Try to come up with 25 kinda well know black people who support Sanders. See? So there has to be common phrases and evasive pivots too for the game to work.

Not because I think it's needed, but because the Bernistas are convinced that the Hillarians are colluding to persecute them on all platforms at all times.

(10,154 posts)I don't see how DU can get much worse than it is now. NC has always seemed like a long shot for Sanders, so I don't understand how there would be a lot of extra outrage if he loses.
JustAnotherGen
(31,828 posts)Number23 tips us off on it every once in awhile. When I took the time to absorb it - yeah. Black people were blamed for it and many were run off of DU.
If every single black person in SC doesn't vote for Sanders next week - it's going to be ugly.

steve2470
(37,457 posts)Way too many of my fellow Sanders supporters are not able to respectfully discuss the issues. I'm fine if we don't have a special thread for them. They can go to GDP if they really want to have a discussion.

(22,336 posts)Why would someone think it's OK to post a "How dare you not vote for Bernie" post here? What are people thinking?
And I'm not swayed when I hear some random white person is voting for one person or another. Why is there this expectation that you are all going to change your vote - or even have some obligation to change your vote - because one person is voting for Bernie, just because that person is black?
There's another "MLK would have voted for Bernie!" post out there. Sigh.
wildeyed
(11,243 posts)Hardly anyone makes that type of choice based on a single endorsement, white or black. I am going to run around GDP now and post "But Katy Perry endorsed Clinton! She is a young white person! That is why she is right for ALL young white people!" She did right? Because I can't remember because who cares who a celebrity entertainer endorse.... But whatever, you get my drift. And see how much they like it when Clinton surrogates old-splain to younger voters? That is obnoxious as heck too, and they hate it, but can't seem to make the intellectual and emotional jump to how they and their candidate are doing the same to AAs and generating the same type hostility and frustration.
One butthurt victim PM'ed me after receiving a beatdown that I was only welcomed here as a white person because I was a Clinton supporter and everyone in the forum was in the bag for her too. I LOL'ed.....
