So glad to hear this. They may not have made the officer pay, but this is getting at the roots of the corruption.

It was flat-out amazing to me how horrid those officials are, and completely unable to learn from mistakes. I read about the killing first, just as a short mention on the National page. And then the local police shot the stringer for the NYT with a rubber bullet during an early protest. And I was like, No, bad idea. Don't shoot the NYT reporter unless you want ALL the national press paying attention. But they just got louder and more awful the more publicity they got. Like a watching slow motion car wreck. And still, they can't get it together. The Justice Department has to come in now. But so glad they are. Thanks Obama!

I hope this wakes up the many, many more who have been systematically abusing their minority citizens. Thanks to the activists who didn't let this die!

Ms. Lynch is moving right along, as promised. I was shocked the city rejected a proposed settlement that sought to "remedy literally years of systematic deficiencies." The Justice Department spent more than six months negotiating a settlement with local officials after it identified widespread civil rights violations and racial discrimination in the Ferguson Police Department's stops, searches, and arrests. It also alleges that local court proceedings violated the due process of residents. The city council's rejection of the agreement, Lynch said, "leaves us no further choice."

I could have sworn that I red the city was all for the settlement but one thing that stood out, in the article I read, was something about the cost to the city.

Lynch got to do what she has to do.
