At the end of the day I'm all Bernie but I understand your frustrations with some of his supporters.

(5,614 posts)When my kid was picked up by the cops in Queens I had to go to court the next day to get him sprung.
My ancestors came from Ireland. I didn't have to worry about going to a funeral home instead.
You and I both know blacks and whites live in entirely different worlds in this nation. I think we are backing the only candidate who is actually willing and able to understand that, and speak up against the systemic racism that runs through our society like endless diarrhea.
Stand your ground.

Nothing - not one thing is going to change for us regardless of who the President is.
The only PEOPLE who can stand up for us - is us.
No one has ever 'saved' us and no one ever will. It's on us to be defiant to America (including the person who ends up being President) and everything America implies.
That's how we get things done. That is the proven method.

(31,849 posts)it appears he/she was talking ABOUT you.
Secondly, he/she came into this Group to acknowledge conduct that far too many DUers pretend(?) to not see.
Thirdly, what JAG said ... and JRLeft's comment is a first step.

(31,823 posts)That we aren't his enemy. I've noticed he doesn't get a lot of support from across the broad Sanders community at DU. I don't think they know what to do with him. He is not a reflection of J17. Or randys1. Or geek tragedy. He's just not.

(31,823 posts)I posted on your thread. That's one thread where it seems people are at least willing to try to have a conversation.
I *think* by and large black Americans are cynical and we don't trust campaign slogans. In particular those of us in their 30's and older.
We've heard empty promise after empty promise for 50+ years. I'll get slammed for standing in my truth but I have to -
Why didn't Sanders address this in the 1980's and early 90's? He's been in the halls of Capitol Hill since I was in high school.
Nothing has changed other than blatant racism becoming more acceptable in this country. Nothing has changed. We've been standing in a crowded Democratic Convention hall screaming at the top of our lungs for 40 to 50 year and no one heard us until 2008.
In 2012 he suggested someone primary the man who made us Americans. I contend we weren't on the board until 1964 (civil rights act extending full rights of citizenship). Obama and won - and he symbolized how far we came in such a short time.
I have an inherent distrust for DC insiders. I just do. That extends to both contenders.
