All sorts of micro-aggression ensuing as a result. One person actually demanded that I "describe him."
It's interesting to see such a lack of self-awareness on full display.

(11,243 posts)Although I DID unfriend and block my neighbor for his sexist and abusive Sanders drivel. Don't drink and post, people.... God, the neighborhood BBQ is going to be AWKWARD this year
I do a complicated Kabuki dance of fairness and open mindedness with another friend who is a big time Sanders supporter. We are both advocating for our candidate as hard as we can while saying the NICEST possible things about the other. We are so sweet it make my teeth hurt

(32,342 posts)but I don't have to see his feelings on a daily basis.
I know a lot of older Reds who are basking in the glow of not being forced in front of tribunals for saying "sociaiism" so I get their giddiness. CA is pretty left and I'm younger so I don't really need that as an election goal. Some days I'm tempted to say, I'd love to see a socialist run for President, as long as it is the right socialist--like Angela Davis.

(11,243 posts)He is a pitiful, broken hearted, middle aged white guy subsumed by bitterness for reasons I can't even fathom.
It wasn't his support of Sanders that pissed me off. I know plenty of Sanders supporters in the real world. It was his juvenile and sexist attacks on Clinton. And then, when I gently called him out, his willingness to join his douchebag old friends in personally attacking my character.

(25,531 posts)All those anecdotes like, "You'll never BELIEVE what my neighbor's sister's dog-walker's hairdresser and my black nephew heard down at the pub!" Liars always assume everyone else is lying and for some reason get outraged. What a huge bore literal thinkers are. I'm really enjoying the threads teasing them -- they get so worked up I almost fear for their health.

(11,833 posts)Some folks here really do some good and great things in their real lives. Yet it's tricky sharing much of it online because there's always gonna be haters. I just presume that my friends here do really cool things and are much like the people I respect & admire in real life. And that haters are gonna keep hating. If Gandhi or King or Jesus posted on a message board they'd be hounded by naysayers. 'You helped lead a nonviolent overthrow of British colonialism? No way! Liar! You're obviously a tool of the oligarchy! You suck!'
Not to say we're all a bunch of Gandhis. Just that when you post anything personal some creep will attack it. Also, there are some posts where I doubt what the person's saying is true. I just kind of keep my bullshit detector to myself. And laugh. I don't go around demanding more info or freaking out over some small funny anecdote, like what some unfortunate souls did in your thread.
I mean, it's just a comment about the saturday night live skit. Which I thought was hilarious. And then you just comment that the reaction of your cousin who failed to find humor in it was pretty funny. And then inevitably someone comes along and proves your point by saying 'I don't believe you. And that's not funny.'
So, thanks for the laughs. I laugh my ass off at people who are so uptight that they can't even find some humor in someone making fun of themselves. For some reason that makes me laugh more than anything!
