This place just depresses me.

The thread about Sarah Palin's newest granddaughter just annoys the crap out of me. Imagine if Chelsea Clinton had had a kid out of wedlock. We'd still be hearing about it today. I didn't use an Obama daughter because they are teenagers, and that would just be unthinkable. Imagine a shot of Jesse Jackson's love child with it's mom in the hospital. I don't think there would have been so much love.

But oohing and aahing over some precious baby. You know it's 'cause it's white and they can relate. OK, I'm generalizing, but I think there's some truth.

1. In all fairness, we did go wild over Charlotte, Hillary's first grand baby.

But, as far as Palin is concerned, I don't care how may grand babies her kids give her in or out of wedlock. I do get what you are saying about white babies.

babies.

All babies.

I don't think it hurts to ooh and ahh over babies. My thought is when they grow to grade school age, don't submit them standardized testing.

And don't send the child to a school where the cafeteria staff are not generous of heart.

I believe the school system has offered this woman her job back. She was trying to be kind to the student who had nothing to eat. The student was not negligent in forgetting her lunch money; she had no money to remember to bring. She was hungry. This woman gave her food so she would not be.

That's even better than oohing and ahhing.

I didn't read much love in that thread. The one I read was full of snark for the hypocritical abstinence-only girl.

The main point that the media seems willing to overlook is the fact that this is her second child out of wedlock. Yet, she accepted $100,000s to give speeches in abstinence . Someone in the media should be asking her to refund all that money. That's the part that angers me. If she were black, the media would hound her and her parents.

10. It was actually a petty little thing in a sea of big things.

I avoid DU right now, and probably will only stick a toe in every once in a while until August. I try to promote my girl, Donna, and I skim the LBN headlines in case I feel there's something I need to know about. I am always cheering from the back when I hear about the DU racial confrontations. There's something in me that tries to see both sides. At least politically, and then come to terms with "OK, I looked, I saw, and I don't like it." If I couldn't do it, I'd have tied the shoelaces together on the white guy in my office. Mr. "They don't deserve a higher minimum wage - go to college like I did!" It is because of how DU AA's have pushed so hard, that I see that white "escapes" white privilege. It's because of DU AA's that I can keep track of BLM. I feel so lucky to have you guys in the cyberspace forefront, throwing hand grenades at white privilege.

So yeah, it was a petty little thing. It just urked the crap out of me.

Folks around here certainly do try. And Lord knows it is not easy. Especially when some folks who share your hue (or so they say) are the main ones calling you names that even the most racist white person would have enough sense not to do.

And to be honest, I don't think it's worth the effort. This place is not representative of America or of Democrats. It's a tiny little corner full of anarchists and libertarians who think they speak for the world. It's all rather pitiful and pointless actually.

I kind of try and think of it like a big party. I usually don't like or feel like speaking with everyone there. But if I can find a few people I enjoy and talk with them, then I've had a pretty good time. Thank goodness there's people I enjoy in this group, and even out there in the bigger part, like you say, there are gems in the mud.

Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!

this is probably the fifth time I've been on the verge of leaving for a long time, though I always seem to come back.

There is a lot of stupid on DU, many with strong opinions and few facts or connection with reality.

There is also the endlessly circular nature of the arguments. I've left for months on DU, come back, and found the same people arguing about the same things. No progress has been made.

and there are few, a very few, that are much more knowledgeable about a topic than me and teach me things. That is why I come back.

and you have been one of those people, so please don't go too far away.

come back and seen the same people arguing about the same things. Sometimes I'm like 'I wonder if they'll ever get tired of arguing?' They don't. I presume they live in some highly agitated state of mind (of which I want no part). A lot of them seem to watch a lot more tv 'news' than me.

There are definitely people who are more knowledgeable about some topics. Like you're both saying, those are the gems. I've learned a lot from you too!

19. the other pattern I've run into is this:
Tue Dec 29, 2015, 12:49 AM

Someone new joins DU, and starts an argument that has been rebutted in hundreds of previous threads, and thinks they are original and thought of something new.

And the circle starts again.

I'm glad this place isn't representative of America or Democrats. If it was it would just be a bunch of mean-spirited name-calling. Democrats probably wouldn't win any elections. In addition to the anarchists and libertarians, I also believe there's trolls. By 'troll' I mean those who want to divide liberals and get them all fighting amongst themselves. And also, of course, 'anyone I don't like' roflmao.

At the same time, as qwlauren says so well, there really is a lot of good information here. If one can sift through the nonsense and find it. And laugh at the nonsense. I know we've talked about this before. It just totally cracks me up. Sometimes I say to myself 'do they really believe that?' Then they post again and I go 'holy shit - they really do!' And again and again and again. And I'm genuinely feeling sorry for them like 'I hope they can be less angry all the time.'

I love this group so much. We have a lot of fun here and share a lot of great information. And one of my favorite things, we usually don't take ourselves too seriously.

In 100% total seriousness:

"Some of these people around here can simply NOT BE FOR REAL." I have posted that exact phrase at least 100 times here. And I honestly do believe that.

They are either trolls, bored and just trying to stir up mess. Or the most terrifyingly insular, uninformed folks on the planet. Some of the stuff that gets put on this board... I just do my face and keep right on going.

I love this group so much. We have a lot of fun here and share a lot of great information. And one of my favorite things, we usually don't take ourselves too seriously.

I feel exactly the same.
