Radio Tea: Tom Joyner Morning Show Reportedly Ending January 2017 + Joyner Responds…

NEWSFLASH!! Radio legend Tom Joyner, the first African-American nationally syndicated radio personality, is reportedly being booted from his popular Radio One show.
According to online sources, Joyner, 65, is being forced into early retirement from ‘The Tom Joyner Morning Show,’ which reaches over eight million listeners in 105 markets daily.
Word on the curb is that syndicated host Russ Parr, 56, into Joyner’s time slots in Washington, DC and Baltimore starting in January. A source reveals that ‘Tom isn’t ready to go and hasn’t even made plans for life after radio. Radio is his passion and it’s all he knows’.

This is an interesting story. I guess in the coming months we will see if all of this information is true. It seems that Tom Joyner could just go to another network if he still wanted to work.

folks raised a lot of hell about that so they hurried up and got him a new gig on the station that he's on now. The question is, is he about to get bumped again, and you are right we will see.

5. I saw this at the link. I just don't think Tom would be in the dark about something so serious.

“Any stories that suggest major changes to the Tom Joyner Morning Show are inaccurate,” Reach Media, a subsidiary of Radio One, said in a statement. “Tom Joyner is under contract with Reach Media until the end of 2017. We expect that Reach will continue to syndicate Tom’s show beyond that date and for as long as he would like to be on the air.”

tom joynerThe Daily Mail story says Radio One plans to replace Joyner with syndicated host Russ Parr in Washington, DC and Baltimore in January 2016. And while Reach Media says it plans on sticking with Joyner for the long haul, it acknowledges that it might make some changes to the host’s market clearance map. “There has always been refinements and updates to the show as well as market changes due to local conditions, and there may be some in the future; but Tom Joyner and the Tom Joyner Morning show continues to be strong and is a daily Party with a Purpose,” the statement says. “Reach is committed to Tom Joyner for the long term who remains committed to radio, his audience and the future.”

because at the video link above this guy, Dr. Boyce Watkins says that they are keeping Tom Joyner, Al Sharpton and other black folks in the media around until after Obama leaves office.

Maybe my bias towards TJ has blinded me to new tastes from the younger generation, or something. It's their world, we're just living in it, at this stage, I guess....I'm bummed if they don't find him a new platform.

When Bill Maher had that ABC show "Politically Incorrect," the way that he got strangled and killed was that this right wing jerk who owned the Albritton franchise of TV stations (ABC) happened to own the one in DC--which is a huge market. Because his show was boycotted in DC, no one was able to see it in that market (this was way before computers were capable of streaming media like we do now). When I was living there, I had a relative tape the show for me and pop it in the mail, which made me VERY popular with friends I didn't even know I had~!

Also enjoy Harvey but TJ will always be #1 in my book - and not just for the comedy.
