2. Brother, this is what we've been trying to do for 400 years.

Why do you think we have black colleges, civil rights orgs, communities, hospitals, etc. etc. etc. We have known for CENTURIES that no one gave a crap. I think we were lulled in some part, allowing ourselves to think that things had changed. Ain't a DAMN thing changed. Props to Sanford for giving us the wake up call.

I would love to be a fly on the wall when mothers of black sons have The Talk about Trayvon tonight.

It's just that this country's racism is more subtle and "polite" than it once was. While it's no longer socially-acceptable for non-Blacks to blurt out the N-word, we still have our problems when it comes to institutional racism, discrimination, and profiling. What this verdict did was basically imply that we are less than human. Anyone with a brain knows that it is NOT self-defense when you initiate the confrontation, which GZ did. He got away with stalking and killing someone who was simply running an errand and minding his own business.
Any normal case would've been different.

8. Yes, the racism has gotten more subtle but no less insidious, poisonous or pervasive

Folks just know to keep in a bit better than their grandparents did. It's still there, as strong as ever. And killing all of us by the day.

I do. My sister does. My niece does. My nephew does. Both my sons do. My father does. My mother does.

We are sick about this verdict. We are white. We support whatever legal means are available to Black Americans to defend against this ever happening again. We would like to help. Blacks do not need to feel alone, and are not alone in their outrage over this verdict.

But, this thing just feels personal, tonight. It's gonna take awhile. This has struck a nerve. For a lot of people, this trial represents the end of something. For some of us...this is the beginning. This is a rallying cry.

I hope you understand that the feelings are very raw and it'll take time. The anger is there but it is not directed at good white people who are and have shown a genuine interest in seeing real change happen.

There will be anger but it is not personal. It's frustration more than anything else.

11. This may be controversial but what makes us think we are American

because we were born here. We have never been American this isn't our country we just suffer and die here.

We should remember that have that in the back of our mind and explore other options.

Right now it's very real. To me - I'm terrified of George Zimmerman. He's out tere and free. He will do it again. And he will get away with it. That's my decision this morning. Nothing can stop him. I pray it's not one of my nephews the next time.

and it's high time americans stop this shit. i understand your sentiment, i just don't agree that it is our problem and our problem alone to solve. america needs to take responsibility for all that it has done and hasn't done. in taking responsibility, action will be required, e.g., affirmative action. the problem, is and has been, a good portion of the country is still racist and still fighting the civil war. there has never been any resolution as there had to be in germany and south africa. not that those countries have solved anything, but they did reach a consensus of sorts, and that's something that's never happened here. we've always had that other side: be they slaveowners, segregationists or teabaggers, who don't want use to have shit, as my dad used to say. frankly, i think the next battle in this struggle is between non-racists of all colors and racists.
