The City of Chicago has some explaining to do...

Laquan McDonald was murdered...no doubt.

A $5 million settlement before a lawsuit was filed.

Fighting FOIA requests for the video.

Fighting FOIA requests for the autopsy.

Allegations that police detectives deleted tape from a nearby Burger King that also showed what happened.

OVER A YEAR TO CHARGE!

Clearly the district attorney was dragged to this kicking and screaming.

What an embarrassment.

but said they understood the decision.

'We deeply appreciated the outpouring of love and support for Laquan,' the family said in a statement through their attorneys. 'While we would prefer the video not be released, we understand a court has ordered otherwise.'

They family has also appealed for calm, urging that those who view the video 'don't resort to violence in Laquan's name.'"

Amen.

Oh and the Burger King owner mentioned in OP said he was never told they were going to erase part of the tape( his property) when they took it for evidence

Some questions that I have just off the top of my head:

- Have all the dashcam videos been released?
- What's up with the Burger King video?
- What's up with the witnesses who were there? (Reports of harassment, etc)
- The delay in releasing the video as well as the autopsy results implies a "blue code of silence"
- Who where the other officers on the scene and what was in the reports filed by them? If their reports were 'misleading' should they not be charged and prosecuted as well?
- 16 shots is enough to stop a charging bear or elephant...what was the reason the officer had to shoot this kid at least 14 times (over a period of 12-15 seconds) while he was on the ground immobile?

The video is just sad. I'm sad for that kid. I'm sad for his family. I'm sad for the one or two cops on the scene who feel the need to go along with the blue code that they don't feel that they can say anything. I'm sad for the Chicago community. I'm sad that I have to again explain this kind of situation to my 16 and 11 year old sons who just passed the TV and said, "What happened now, Dad?" Another act against a Black life that I have to explain.
