Black Lives Matter to host Democratic presidential town hall

"The groups’ influence has extended into the political arena, with Black Lives Matter provisions now included in the Democratic Party’s official plank and candidates rushing to court their favor after stumbling in the past. But prominent leaders within the Black Lives Matter umbrella have said that is not enough. After seeing just one question directly address race and police reform in the first Democratic presidential debate earlier this months, groups have been in talks with the DNC for a racial justice-specific forum."

On edit, last Friday BLM rejected the DNC's offer.

"Their response to our request is unsatisfactory,' Black Lives Matter organizer Elle Hearns said, and added that it is irresponsible for the Democratic National Committee to host so few debates.

Mckesson said he has reached out to contacts at Twitter, the social network on which he is one of the most prominent users, to gauge their interest in co-hosting the town hall.

Top Twitter executives have taken pride in the fact that the platform is credited as one of the driving factors in the growth of the protest movement. Earlier on Wednesday, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey mentioned specifically mentioned the spread of the Black Lives Matter hashtag on Twitter."

So stay tuned.

be BLM moderators.

On edit, Half-Century Man, the story is from last week - I forgot to check the date - and will have to reread after work. But I think the townhall will proceed and may be Twitter hosted.

It seems the BLM network rejected DNC sponsorship of the townhall, while DeRay Mckesson, who is a BLM leader, is moving along with talks with Twitter people and working to secure committments from the candidates.

We'll see. Stay tuned.
