African American
Related: About this forumWe're seeing a lot of racial cluenessless around; but; I'm ...
I'm seeing something more disturbing.
I'm in a randomly selected cbs sports fantasy football league. We had our draft yesterday. It's a 12 person league and 4 of the teams have the following names:
"White Lives Matter", "The Rolling 88", "AngloSaxon Warriors", and "The Aryan Avengers".
That folks are being so blatant with it ... I think it's going to be a long season."

(13,596 posts)owner is a Samoan-American I played football with in high school. That shit wouldn't fly and we're in Idaho. It's a local league and we all meet and know each other pretty well. Other than racism, anything goes as far as team names. We encourage it be something that ties in with your real name. The best is probably The Hemphill Sidestranglers! Suck Mike Ditka is pretty good too.

(31,849 posts)the 4 of them were pretty chatty during the draft, and seemed to be pretty vulgar ... the draft timer was set to a 2 minute clock, and 4 teams were on auto-pick. These 4 were harassing each of the 4 remaining live drafters ... telling us to hurry up with our picks.
On another note ... My team is Okay; but, I was doing laundry during the draft. In the 3rd round, I went to take the clothes out of the dryer and put another load in ... It took a little longer than I expected and when I got back, the computer had selected Joe Flacco! ... Joe Flacco!
Lesson for Live drafts ... Laundry can wait.

(13,596 posts)your format, there would have had to have been a QB frenzy for it to get all the way down to Flacco even being rated the best on the board. Some leagues are like that though. Everyone QB crazy.
I got Lynch with the 5th pick in the first. Then Gronk, Mark Ingram, Jimmy Graham and then the Den QB.
Then it got tough but I did get the Seahawk D as well. I'm in Seahawk country. It's rare I get even one of their best guys.

(31,849 posts)I went Eddie Lacy (second pick 1st round), then Melvin Gordan, then settled for Mike Evans, then it got insane.
Looks like my success is going to be won or lost based on waiver wire match ups.

(6,148 posts)I'm not a Baltimore fan, but I live near Baltimore and Flacco is not the worst you could have done, by a long shot. Who did you expect - Kevin Manning? Get over it...

(31,849 posts)In NO world should a computer algorithm have had Joe Flacco the 26th player and 4th Quarterback, off the board, even with there having been a run on Quarterbacks.
And, it was particularly stinging for me, a life-long Cleveland Browns fan, that suffered the indignity of watching Art Modell move the Browns to B-More and renaming them, the Ravens. To this day, I cheer FOR the Browns ... and, whatever play is playing AGAINST the Ravens. (I know ... silly fan sentiment. )

(6,148 posts)That's how we feel about the "Indianapolis" Colts.
So, I now completely understand, and you kinda got burned on that one.

(135,425 posts)It's really disturbing. Blooms easily and surprisingly, too....like a dangerous algae.
At least they're letting their flag fly openly--I'd rather know 'em and be able to spot 'em from a distance.

(6,148 posts)I like them to announce it so I can avoid them.
On the other hand, I don't like having them in my personal space.
Even in real life, we usually can't just quit a job because of one racist co-worker. You just have to step around the vomit as best you can.

(37,364 posts)returned from the opposite direction in which I had left. In front of the house just to the left of us, I noticed that a small Confederate flag had been placed close to the foundation near the porch. It is not conspicuous or readily noticable. We know the young couple who have lived there for the past three years. They have always been really friendly and stop by and chat when we are all out in the yard. They are staying in the house, which is owned by their grandparents, while they finish college.
I feel just stunned right now and not certain about how to deal with this. This adds the nervousness I have already been feeling since a the person who moved in about four doors down opened a gun shop in his house. We live in a village of 200 people. Aside from a few newcomers, it's hard to not know everyone.
I need to regroup.

(37,364 posts)I called my husband at work to let him know about it. I said I wanted to ask those kids why it is there when I see them next. He said let it be for now. I'm really uncomfortable. We've never had any problems with them and it seems out of character for them to me. You never can tell though.

I dont know you so I dont know if you are Brown, etc.
white but my husband is black, which only adds to my concerns. I want to know why it is there. We also live in a historical district and the Confederacy is not what it is known for. I''m pretty positive that if we took the issue to the historical entity that oversees this, it would be removed.
randys1
(16,286 posts)If you cant have it removed legally, then your husband needs to make sure they know how you all feel.
But then again, anyone who would fly that flag is potentially quite violent, so maybe not.
