BLM protests at a Sanders event, resulting in Sanders putting out a detailed racial justice plank in his platform and hiring Symone Sanders as a press secretary.
"How dare you interrupt Sanders! Don't you know who he is? Why aren't you protesting Hillary?"
BLM attempts to protest at a Hillary event, but is locked out by the United States Secret Service.
"You obviously didn't try hard enough, I wonder why that is? And why aren't you protesting any GOP candidates?"
BLM protests at a Jeb Bush event, resulting in nothing but finger pointing, shouting, and overtly racist bullshit from the racist crowd.
"These antics are getting old."

BLM are heroic, lip service will no longer do as the first black President obstructed at every turn to improve race justice is obstructed by a majority racist Congress.
The next President, if able, has to be able to do as much as possible, and mean it when they say it.
For example, O'M's detailed criminal justice plan is one plank of overall racial justice that is the best to date....each candidate can learn from the other.

BLM is pushing racial justice to the front burner for all candidates...it is a good thing..let them choose their methods, they do not have to all be the same.
Why is everyone acting so surprised that BLM went to a GOP event to disrupt and protest and focus the attention on awareness and solutions rather than problems, so long denied?
We all know what the problems are.

(10,337 posts)Interesting that the candidates who are most likley to effect change are being slammed while the "candidates" most likley to perpetuate the problem are left alone.
Let's see them show up at a Trump event. Hell, let's see them show up at a Hillary event on time and without warning her prior to the event. This is corporate bullshit to "Dean Scream" a real candidate who want's to actually change the system.

(32,342 posts)I used to live in Oakland, but moved back to San Mateo County for a job. Things have been getting sharper into focus out here too Off. #BlackLivesMatter is in the Bay Area, and for good reason. A San Jose cop just racially profiled a Black family, followed them home. http://www.sanjoseinside.com/2015/07/30/lawsuit-alleges-san-jose-police-racially-profiled-black-family/
The San Jose lawsuit also follows an analysis by this newspaper of traffic-stop data collected by police last year that found significant racial disparities in the stops. Officers pulled over, searched, curb-sat, cuffed or otherwise detained blacks and Latinos at far higher percentages than their share of this city's population. Yet the stops seldom led to arrests or evidence of crimes.
http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-news/ci_28556332/new-allegations-racial-profiling-by-san-jose-cops
Last year a cop came under scrutiny for racist tweets. In San Jose. He threatened to kill Black Lives Matter protesters on his twitter feed. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/san-jose-cop-phillip-white-suspended-for-twitter-threat-to-protesters/
This is one of the most progressive places in the US, but like Seattle, there are deep faults along racial lines. There is no setup. Tonight protesters are shutting down Oakland, for the death by cop of another Black man. https://twitter.com/CHPoakland/status/631700649592254464
I don't like our "corporate masters" either, but it is they who profit from racism and death. I can't imagine a world where they give enough of a shit to pay attention to Black grassroots activism to give it a national platform.

As Imani stated in a recent writing ... people, really should, reflect on why they would choose to believe conspiracy theories, than accept that Black (women) folks are speaking up and out.

I said as much to a friend. I actually got a fierce BS supporter (and friend) to listen to himself. And give up the crazy conspircy theories.

(24,580 posts)Are you suggesting that black women wouldn't speak up to save the lives of their sons and daughters, brothers and sisters unless they were paid to do so? Seriously? I hate to break it to you, but black lives do matter and are more important than "our candidate" whoever is defining that condescending "our".

(10,201 posts)Yet, you turn an intentionally deaf ear.
Stop killing us, is a simple and reasonable demand.
But all you see is: "they are raining on MY parade"
You don't see thousands dead at the hands of the state. Just Bernie. It's all about the Bernie.

(111,292 posts)Instead of looking like a childish vendetta against one primary candidate in one party, they're now trying to get their message across to everyone.
This is smart. It's not only good enough, it's great. No one can accuse them of being dirty tricksters from some campaign or the other party.
I don't think the antics are getting old. I think they're just getting started.

(4,221 posts)are going to push all the candidates to grow, even the Repubs, just as the message has pushed me the last couple of weeks. I support the protesters in disrupting -- in a polite or impolite manner, however they see fit (short of bloodshed) -- any candidate's speech or debate, any police station, TV station, justice department, attorneys general offices. Period.
I confess that the whole NN interuption thing made me uncomfortable the first couple of days -- I was asking "why Bernie?" at first, now I ask "why not Bernie? He needs a teachable moment just like all of us. " Now I say "it ain't about Bernie, nothing to do with Bernie. It's about Tamir. And Michael Brown and Sam and Sandra and so many other names, how can we keep up?"
I am so grateful that I had already been reading Tim Wise on my FB feed due to all the police shootings. That discomfort I had meant that I had some soul-searching to do about my own personal white liberal smugness, and realized that the disruptions and messaging WORKS.
I will help however I'm asked. I will show up at any rally within 75 miles to lend my support.
I am, however, a "fixer" by nature. It comes from a project manager background. So I do look forward to next steps in changing the system. I will pledge to work hours collecting data or doing footwork for any focused activism that comes up later as the demands on the BLM site harden into more concrete actions (filing complaints to DOJ, etc.)
The one "but..." I will add to my post is this: Bernie is operating on a shoestring budget. At the time of Netroots Nation, I believe I'd read he has spent a sum total of $112K for his entire campaign (merchandise, salaries, travel, expenses) - he needs to step up his response time, but that means he has to step up staff levels and coordination - that costs MONEY and is probably NOT the way he is used to operating his modest life and shoestring campaigns. He will need to get faster though. Looks like he's got a handle on that now.

(10,201 posts)Just last night I was having a "discussion" that "Stop killing us" is not a slogan. It's a rather reasonable demand. But that was not good enough, it needed a "goal" and "roadmap". WTF?
This is why DU frustrates me at times.

(34,112 posts)they keep it up. It is apparently too easy for those that make the laws to turn their heads and let the killing and all else continue. My god, there really is too much. So much I had to say "all else" for fear of forgetting something important. It has gone on long enough that the list is getting way too large. It has to stop. I, for one, hope it continues until everything is finally set so that we can move passed all of this. After all these years and no equality. Shame on us.
This is the best way to get people to pay attention anymore. That IS a sad statement but it is what it is.
They cannot stop now. The press will be bad but they are being heard this way.
All who are targeted by this group will be fine. How does this hurt them? Hopefully they grow from it and change in a manner that helps from the standpoint of those who need that help, not just from the standpoint of someone who does not.
