Ending with 1941 - because that was the year my dad was born. He knew his family's 'slaves'. He knew these people - even thought Miss Gracie (a Seminole Slave) who married Aaron (he was my ancestor who escaped to Mexico and came back for her in early 1866) was according to my dad 'wierd' and not as much fun as her counterpart his Great Grandfather the Irish Immigrant . . . he still 'listened to her'.
Today is the 4th anniversary of his death.
I wanted to share with you all - there were people in my lifetime for whom they hold this story - these images in their hearts. And now these images and memories are held in my heart -and shared with all of you!

(41,170 posts)Didn't recall ever seeing a portrait of him. Years ago I worked an a NEH (Nat. Endowment for the Humanities) museum exhibit on black soldiers in the Civil War. That was a great experience and a successful project. My dad was in the 7th Army in Germany in WWII and a good 1st Lieut. AAA, anti aircraft artillery. I think of him and all he gave us often.
