You made a herculean effort to explain some truths about the back community in this country, and it looked like you were getting some people to listen. Yet one favorable word from a Black Lives Matter activist about Hilary Clinton, and BLM is once again the enemy. Some fights are simply impossible. BLM is making huge in-roads in getting segments of the political community to pay attention, to start to listen. Some, however, never will because their agenda will always take precedence.
I'm sorry. I know you tried so hard. Some of us have learned from you and others in this group, and we will continue to do so. No candidate, no politician, should ever take precedence over key issues of human rights. Some people get that, even if others refuse.

(53,661 posts)All kinds of media is used to condition us to what we think is normal. I consider Americans, particularly white America, to identify so much with commerical memes they have lost what kind of culture they once had and it's partly why they are so desperate to cling to power. They 'got nothing.' If the media tells them they're are winning, they feel good. If it tells them they're losing, they go nuts. They have no real root.
I remember listening to Jimi when he came out and knew every song. It was a particular time in history.
I was working daily door to door to get the first black mayor elected in my town all summer. We thought he had a chance as we really needed a change. We had a much hated police chief who supported brutality.
Oh, the idealism of youth! We just knew the wave of the future would carry him into office.
Well, our candidate didn't win, but eventually we got an effective fully civilian pollce review board and things got more 'civilized.' Now things are going back to something much worse, from what I have read going on there.
Jimi came to town for a concert at the end of the summer. I'd saved up the money to go. But I was in the hands of a part of the family less educated and more conservative than the rest. My dad, who died the year after JFK, was more of an Eric Fromm socialist, All People Are Created Equal type, although he had his own business.
It was okay with that part of the family for me to go with black people into the black neighborhoods to get out the Democratic vote for my mayoral candidate, but they wouldn't let me go to the concert. They let me see the Rolling Stones, etc.
Maybe the idea of a 16 year old white girl seeing a sexy black man was too much for them? Oh, well.
I left home at 18 to be free of their belief system and soon took up with my Sam Rockwell type guy and they really hated that. They did like him eventually, as he was socialist and pro-union.

(11,833 posts)It's the funniest goddamn shit I've seen here.
People who keep quoting MLK to assault black people.
Reminds me of what far too many people do with the words of Jesus.
Or whoever.
By the way, King expressed profound disappointment with white liberals in Chicago who talked a big game about housing integration and just ignored him after he left that city. That's just one example.
Again, I just try and ignore the nonsense or make a joke that makes ME laugh. When someone else laughs too it makes me feel good. At least I know someone else has a great sense of humor. Like that berniesoblack stuff. That shit still cracks me up.

When Justice Died
When justice died that day
I cried for oh so long
I looked for liberty and freedom
And sang a sad sad song
Justice had been ill
For all of my life
Oppression and bigotry
Her struggle and her strife
She stood upon a hilltop
Saying she, was there for all
Just as soon as I reached her
Lady Justice took a fall
Her wrist were shackled
There was blood on her sleeve
The last thing she said was,
Get off me, I cant breathe!"
There would be no trial
No jury to be sat
For the ones who killed Justice
Were policemen on attack
When Justice died that day
I cried for oh so long
I buried her with Liberty and Freedom
And sang our sad, sad, song

The truth is very strong and you've been telling it. I've found it gives one a power those who fear making enemies will never know. It scares them, and it should.
You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

DU believes that white folks are all supposed to think the same and that if you deviate from the frothy screaming and howling at the moon, that you are a Third Way corpo-fascist.
Apparently when it comes to POC, we're only liked if we deviate from what the majority of our folks think. So you round up 1000 black people, 905 will despise Cornell West, 95 will like him. Guess who DU will consider the group worth listening to?
You round up 1000 black people. 990 will like Obama, 10 won't. Guess who DU will consider worth listening to? And when you dare to point out the massive discrepancies between the folks they love to love and their support within the black community, some mouth breathing fuckwit will come flying out of the ether to demand "who appointed you Speaker for all black people??!!"

I got called all kinds of racists ... along with wails of "Don't call me a racist"; but, no one could, or even tried to, distinguish between the two points. That was truly telling for me, and should have been for them.

(24,544 posts)If your sole goal is to pretend that the 190,000 polls that show that Bernie Sanders or whomever you support has no support or connection with minority communities, they ARE "all the same thing."
So you'll see 100 polls that show 90% of black people supporting the candidate that you don't support. What do you do? You latch onto the first brown thang you can get your hands on that does support your guy.
DOESN'T MATTER that he is not or does not represent that community. DOESN'T MATTER that his/her support is miniscule compared to others within that same group. No endorsement will be too small or insignificant if they fit the "profile" of what you want them to fit. The ONLY thing that matters is that you got your guy, your ONE guy that you have decided will "refute" the tens of thousands of others that say the opposite of what you so desperately want to hear.

Not necessarily because they insist that they be assigned more credibility and value, but simply because they know they are by virtue of the white power structure that exists.

When this stops working or happening, there is friction.
