My DIL just saw a deer with a fawn outside her house near

Buffalo, NY. I'm not sure how large the fawn was, but isn't this the wrong time of year to be seeing fawns? I would think last year's fawns are grown, and this year's aren't due until April?

It sounds like a program I heard of where they are using chemicals to affect the fertility of deer. I've heard that one of the drawbacks of this is that instead of stopping fertility sometimes it just throws them off their cycle. They do this with wild horses, too. What happens is you just stress the herd, giving them young they can't keep alive. This sounds horrible, but it beats rounding them up by helicopter and sending them to feed lots.

It could just be a really young fawn, too. I hope it survives, but then again, that will put that gene forward, which most likely would produce more pain than gain.

Then again, it could be nature's response to a warming climate...
