any one do bat rescure? Ive had downed bats around my house but this time I want to do it right..

...Ive talked to rescue people in the past and they said most downed bats are juvies trying to fly and they need help launching. When hubby gets home he will put on his big ol leather gloves and we will try to dislodge the bat from the top of my lawnmower bag and toss it into the air. The bat entrance is on the side of my house near the peak in the roof. Ive checked the bat and theres no white nose so its not sick but still....scary when they kinda hiss and extend their wings.

....just wanted to get some direction in case it just falls back to the ground...

..dogs get for prevention of rabies. Hubby chatted with the dr about this during his annual exam and the docs wont give the shot unless theres a very good reason. Im still working on them about this as i have at least one bat encounter a year.

Good for you for relocating the bat to a tree as they cant lift off from the ground.

..after i kept the bat in a box in the shower over night, the nearest rescue called me the next day and we met up in town. The rescue was 60 miles away and she rushed right over as soon as she got my voicemail. By this time the bat hadnt had food or water for 24 hours and was appearing very weak. She gave the little guy some Pedialyte and assessed the injury the best she could ( a raw spot on his wing) then she decided to drive it over to Washington State University Vet School....another 2 hours away.

The next day she texted me to say that the bat was assessed and found to have multiple fractures in his wing that was unable to be fixed so she gave it a 'long drink of Pedialte and humanely put the bat to sleep'. She was obviously sad she couldn't save it.

This little bat was assisted by two bat rescue agencies, a University and hours of driving...even tho the bat wasn't saved, it makes me feel good to know that so many people did so much for something so small.
