Republicans fail vets who kept country safe

To the Editor:

George W. Bush sent Americans to fight the two longest wars in U. S. history. President Barack Obama ended the war with Iraq and is in the process of ending the war with Afghanistan. But returning veterans are finding it difficult to compete in the job market. The unemployment rate for veterans is 35 percent higher than for the rest of the country. Worse yet, every 80 minutes an American veteran commits suicide.

Democratic Sen. Patty Murray sponsored a Veterans Jobs Bill that would have allocated $1 billion to help vets find jobs as police officers, firefighters and conservation workers in national parks.

But Senate Republicans blocked the bill with a filibuster. The bill cannot be brought up again until next year. This is a national disgrace. Nobody expects much from these Republicans who have stood by and done absolutely nothing to help the people they purport to represent.

will go even further by privatizing the VA and veterans care to private insurance companies. How will that work when you can deny care due to pre existing conditions.

I agree with the editorial but feel it is TOO KIND to the GOP traitors.
