Did you get help from the DAV. My son was a veteran's advocate for years. It is the greatest thing that he could do in my opinion. He got many vets their disabilities from the VA. I know a man that lost his hearing from artillery and was discharged- he never could get the VA to give him a disability. He did regain some hearing and they say that he only has tinnitus. I wish I met him before David retired. I think he could've made the VA do the right thing.

They were my advocate, they helped me out all they had to do was look in the VA system and I was approved. All I had to do was go to the appointments.

That is a huge victory and will provide a lot of security for you and your family. May you be able to enjoy some peace.

I received a decision for 100% P&T about 3 years ago and, although I still struggle immensely on a day to day basis, there is a lot of comfort in knowing that my family is taken care of via my disability payments.

I don’t know anything about you situation, but it might be worthwhile to look into the VA Caregiver program. My wife gets a lot of support from them and receives nearly $2,000 a month from them as a stipend for putting up with me and my issues. Either reply to this thread or send me a message and I’ll tell you more about it.

As far as SSDI goes, I found it was easier to get that than getting VA disability. They are very quick in comparison to the VA and very friendly. If you are going for SSDI, I recommend you deal with them in person and not through mail or on the phone. You might have to spend some time in a waiting room, but it is worth it.

11. I heard you can make too much for SSI

I got 100% too which for me will be about $2,900 per month but I don't know much about SSDI a common rumor is they deny everyone the first time but I'm pretty sure I have a good enough diagnosis plus I don't need to tie it to war to get it. If there is no requirements regarding income I can give it a shot.

12. You can get VA disability and SSDI at the same time

I collect SSDI and VA disability at the same time. I also got it approved on my first try without a lawyer or any outside help.

It is absolutely worth the effort to apply for SSDI.

Unfortunately, a lot of SSDI approval has to do with the state and locality you reside in. Some states are more lenient than others. I also think what gets a lot of people is a lack of evidence. Age is another factor that supposedly has something to do with your odds of approval (The younger you are, the harder it might be to get approved).

I was 35 when I was approved, but I had a lot of documentation, hospitalizations, and a long long long treatment history. Documentation - and good documentation is key!

You didn't mention your rating amount. Remember in the V A the squeaky wheel gets the grease so disagree if you feel you deserve more. They usually offer the least amount hoping you will take it and not fight it. You deserve it.
