(3,991 posts)...so the whole display should be left alone, the responses say enough to refute the idea. Be glad, beyond some basic limitations DU is a free speech zone, that's reason to celebrate.

(717 posts)I am sure that if he called another group on DU useful idiots, it would have been censored in an instant.

(16,064 posts)that anyone would alert over something like that.

(1,248 posts)Without getting into the merits (or lack thereof) of the post that generated the alert, I hope the practice of complaining about a jury decision doesn't catch on. As you say, "Sometimes ya win, sometimes ya lose. " IMHO a jury decision should just be accepted, and we all move on from there.

(10,237 posts)...and gave, what I thought, was a well reasoned argument based on the rules. I lost 4-2. I didn't agree, but as you said, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
PEACE!

(23,344 posts)Pulling a definition from wiki: In political jargon, useful idiot is a pejorative term used to describe people perceived as propagandists for a cause whose goals they do not understand, who are used cynically by the leaders of the cause.
On many occasions, in overheated rooms, or freezing parade/exercise grounds, we were gathered to listen to talks about why we were fighting the good fight in Vietnam. Most of the time, I thought the speaker (sgt or cpt) was just saying what he was told to say. So, that individual was what would be called a "useful idiot".
Being just a draftee, all I wanted was for the speech to end. The only word I wanted to hear was "dismissed".
Anyway, the term "useful idiot" does not mean "idiot". I wasn't on the jury, but I might have voted to leave it.
Major Hogwash
(17,656 posts)Mostly used as a pejorative term to refer to the masses who can be easily swayed by emotions, thereby making them easy to manipulate and easy to control. Usually used by rightwingers whenever they refer to liberals as a group.
Due to the fact that they think all liberals are too emotional, easily overwrought, and haven't developed beyond a teenager's level of emotional maturity.
The kids refer to other kids and other people reacting quickly to bad news today as "emos".
Sometimes it's hard for 60-something veterans to understand all of the intricacies of the lingo of a teenage girl, but it's interesting to try.
I wasn't upset at first that the term had been used about veterans in that particular thread.
Rather, I was perplexed by the 5 day long diatribe defending the use of that term after it was used about veterans.

(53,339 posts)Shit, I know I even got out of line on one post--and it's still there.
There will always be that minority here that doesn't have a clue and will attack vets. But we also have a lot of vets here--and more than that, the admins and the majority of members support vets. And they don't buy that kind of bullshit for a minute.
Thanks, denbot, for all your work, and for hosting the Veterans Group. You're a good man.
