Army sergeant at Fort Bliss sentenced to 20 years in child porn case

EL PASO, Texas – A Fort Bliss Army sergeant was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison after authorities discovered he had hundreds of videos depicting child pornography, officials said.

Stephen Thurwanger, 36, was arrested on Oct. 20 after HIS Cyber Crimes Group agents and El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at his home, officials said.

Officials said about 200 videos were found in several seized electronics, and Thurwanger has been in federal custody since his arrest.

In addition to his prison term, Thurwanger was ordered to pay $8,500 in restitution, and he will be placed on supervised release for 10 years following his prison sentence.
