I Still Admire Senator McCain...
He sacrificed a lot for our nation and he still deserves our gratitude.
But, as the person who brought to the political world the most disgraceful, toxic, and unqualified individual on a national ticket since Spiro Agnew, I really wouldn't be criticizing anybody else's decisions on national policy.
Unfortunately, after all you have done in your life - Sarah Palin will always be your legacy.

(8,492 posts)I respect the man. I do not admire him. Granted, as far as Republicans go, I've agreed with him more than most. He seems to (normally) have more courage to stand up to the teaper nuts than the majority.

"McCain, from the first moments of his capture, had behaved as a COLLOBORATOR and propaganda tool for his North Vietnamese captors. McCain had engaged in no less than 30, and likely as many as 38 anti-American propaganda broadcasts for Radio Hanoi during the period of his captivity. Far from the image of a dedicated American "hero" sweating it out in a North Vietnamese prisoner's "hotbox" for 5 1/2 years, McCain was often given "special" treatment by his captors, who were fully aware of his father's and grandfather's 4 star admiral positions with the Navy. No one has ever witnessed McCain's supposed "torture" at the hands of his jailers."

All Conservatives are criminally-inclined tools, and McCain is no exception.

(14,627 posts)he was quite amusing then. But that was before he started pandering to the rightwing nutjobs during the 2008 presidential campaign.
And then there was Sarah . . . he will never live that down!

(2,795 posts)Two horrible people that would have never been as relevant as they are without John McCain.
He should feel like a real schmuck for unleashing those two onto our country.

(81 posts)let bitterness get the better of him. Just remember how Bush smear campaigned against him in the Republican primaries, painting him as a RINO. I suppose he realized that 2008 was his last shot at the Presidency and in the end he was defeated by someone younger and less experienced, someone who hadn't been thorugh all that he has. He's wrong and, needless to say, Obama got a trainwreck of foreign diplomacy after Bush (the same policy McCain unfortunately supported) and is trying really hard to make relations with other countries better, whilst not making America look weak. I do hope McCain realizes that this is not the way he'd like to end his political career, with Palin popping out and war mongering. I too believe he deserves gratitude, like all people who've been through what he had, but his sacrifice alone doesn't make his false assertions true.

(16,079 posts)Up until the Savings and Loan scandal...his ass was pulled out of a fire that burned thousands of people. At that point, things were even...he had been more then compensated for his sacrifice...with the sacrifice of people who lost everything...while he didn't lose anything at all!
We don't owe McCain anything, except maybe our pity for becoming so irrelevant...

(12,754 posts)Had he known how to fly a plane, he might not have been shot down. There are serious questions about his actions in the prison. His voting record is wretched. He was involved in a banking corruption deal -- and skated.
And, as you point out, he tried to put Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the nuclear codes.
Fuck McCain. He's a fraud. Always has been.

(498 posts)There were others that died in the Hanoi Hilton. Any Medal of Honor should have been awarded to them. McCain got it for merely doing his duty because he was a McCain. That John McCain retired from the Navy as a Captain not as an Admiral is a blot on his record. He lived up to the demerit record that he established at Annapolis. Had he been anything but a McCain I doubt he would have graduated. My opinion is that he is a man with out Honor! He should have stayed home and quietly gone to hell while drinking his wife's beer.

(552 posts)He should hold full responsibility for his dirty campaign against Obama that tried to portray him as an enemy of America.
I despise his racism. Look at the time he said it was Mexicans starting all the Arizona fires - not a shred of evidence.
He is part of the ugly bigoted side of America, part of Fox News, part of Rush Limbaugh, part of the Tea Party and I cannot respect that.
