Smaller communities in the Fort Bragg region could face big hurdles when it comes to water supplies in the coming years.

Jim Perry, a special projects planner for the Lumber River Council of Governments, said communities are facing steep costs needed to upgrade or replace current water systems.

Those aging systems run the risk of failing, creating a public health disaster, in the coming decades, he said.

Perry was speaking to the Regional Land Use Advisory Commission, which brings together civilian and military planners and other government officials to discuss mutual concerns.
