U.S., Russia, Go On Hair-Trigger Alert
By Sherwood Ross

For the first time since the Cold War, Russia and the United States are confronting each other militarily and have their nuclear arsenals on hair-trigger alert, peace activist and Nobel Prize nominee Dr. Helen Caldicott warns.

In a speech to the National Press Club, Washington, D.C., Dr. Caldicott, a pediatrician and Founding President of Doctors for Social Responsibility, pointed to the cause of the hostile turn in the relations of the two countries:

"Reports say that The present Ukrainian conflict has caused Russian President Vladimir Putin to raise his nuclear launch status to a higher state of alert, a condition that STRATCOM (U.S. Strategic Command) will almost certainly follow." She described the degenerating U.S.-Russian situation as dire in these words:
"Each country has over 1,000 hydrogen bombs on hair-trigger alert and that 1,000 bombs on 100 cities could induce nuclear winter"which would usher in an ice age"during which we would freeze to death in the dark, creating the final epidemic," Dr. Caldicott said.

~snip~

Indicating a return to Cold War mentality, Dr. Caldicott continued, is the fact that "The Obama administration has just announced that it plans to replace every single hydrogen bomb, submarine, plane and missile," a costly process that will take an estimated 30 years and consume $1 trillion of taxpayers' money.

"The Obama administration has just announced that it plans to replace every single hydrogen bomb, submarine, plane and missile," a costly process that will take an estimated 30 years and consume $1 trillion of taxpayers' money."

Good luck with "$1 trillion of taxpayers' money". The F-35 program is at least $400 billion dollars. Virginia-class submarines are somewhere between $7~$9 billion dollars a pop. Our newest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R Ford, will cost somewhere between $16~$40 billion dollars.

$1,000,000,000,000 (twelve zeros) is just a downpayment.

Or building new things to kill more people.

Big bad Russia is all to blame because it may have invaded another country. HELLO
What the hell have we been doing for 11 or so years.
How many innocent people have we killed or caused to die.
To be honest are we sure that America doesn't have a hand in what's happening in the Ukraine?
Here in America we don't have money to replace infrastructure, many are working 2-3 jobs just to barely get by, our kids are being dumbed down ( textbooks approved by polititicians).
I could go on of course but it's a mute point.
Let's just blame everything on other countries and blow them up. We need the oil YA know. 5 countries in 7 years, we are a little late but getting there.

Take out its infrastructure, leave radioactive material laying around causing birth defects. The powers that be knew Sudam had no WMD before we blew them away. They wanted the oil.

I've not seen anything of Russia annexing the Ukraine. What I have seen are UKRAINE citizens wanting to be part of Russia again. A civil war that we should not be involved in.

I've also see US folks deciding who the governing polititician should be in the Ukraine. Why?

the Budapest memorandum and the negotiated basing rights with Ukraine by sending troops in without ID on trucks and uniforms. After the fact, Putin admitted they were Russian. They then broke international laws by blockading the Ukrainian navy and seizing those vessels that were prevented from leaving. They surrounded the Ukraine bases and then stormed them and seized them and the equipment also. After that they held a vote and the Tartar's and many Ukrainian's protested and did not vote in an election that would not have allowed them to stay with Ukraine. You do know remaining with Ukraine was not a choice on the ballot, right?

We sure did screw up Iraq but at least we left and allowed them the chance for self rule. To bad they are so divided the Sunni's, Shiite's, and Kurd's could not get their act together in the last few years we were gone. Now they are crying to get us back.
