Let the force-shaping begin: Army releases new instructions for grooming standards rollout

The Army has set deadlines for soldiers to get in compliance with its new grooming and appearance regulation once it becomes official.

The revised Army Regulation 670-1 has not been published, but Army Times this month obtained details of the new rules ... The policy establishes tougher tattoo rules and clarifies fingernail, hair and makeup rules. It also outlines how and when uniforms should be worn.

What you need to know:

■ Soldiers have seven days from the release of the regulation to adhere to the new grooming standards.

■ Soldiers must initiate removal of unauthorized dental ornamentation no later than 60 days from the release of AR 670-1.

■ Soldiers must adhere to all other jewelry standards immediately upon release of the new regulation.

■ Currently serving soldiers are prohibited from getting new tattoos that don’t meet the criteria outlined in the new regulation.

■ Applicants contracted for service in any Army component or enrolled in any accession program within 30 days of the release of the new AR 670-1 are grandfathered in to the previously published tattoo policy.

■ Enlisted soldiers selected before July 1 for officer accession programs are grandfathered in to the previously published tattoo policy.

■ Active-duty commanders must complete tattoo validation memos for all assigned soldiers within 30 days of the regulation’s release.....

I don't think North Korea is doing a force drawdown, though! MADem Mar 2014 #4
That will cut down on the new enlistee availability. Frustratedlady Mar 2014 #2

I hope we don't go with the Trump cut here. Maybe the Reagan?

OMG! What if the women have to have the Palin?

All he's gotta do if he's short of cash is cut their pay...or their food rations!

Stop those abortions and quit birth control. We've got to restock the available recruits w/o tattoos, stat!

They will recruit far fewer recruits. They will probably close some of their outlying recruiting stations. They also will want to get rid of the people who are right at the point where they could go either way--make it a career or get out.

The idea is to jerk chains about uniform standards and fitness and knowledge-based tests. People who don't like that stuff, who can't bear jumping through hoops and being micro-managed, will just say to hell with it. If they offer generous severances or even early retirement for more senior people, there will be more people heading for the doors.

If they can't get enough people to leave as a consequence of the bullshit, they'll start picking 'em off, one by one. This is how force shaping works.

Also, if you get rid of people, you can then promote people. If you have too many workers and not enough jobs, the entire process stagnates and it is really bad for morale--there's a perception that there's no hope for advancement, and people feel trapped. It is an Up or Out enterprise--it always has been.
