The Pentagon said Tuesday that it is readying to pull all American troops out of Afghanistan after the Karzai government there has balked on inking a security agreement.
The Obama administration planned to end America’s combat mission in Afghanistan on Dec. 31, but Pentagon planners were ready to leave a significant military contingent there after the war ended.
But, like Iraq, Afghan leaders led by President Hamid Karzai have stalled talks on a “status of forces agreement” that would govern an extended American stay. And now, the Pentagon is getting ready to leave.
Some of the last American troops in Afghanistan will be from Fort Carson, which is sending its 4th Brigade Combat team to war there in the coming weeks.
