Rape hearing runs 30 minutes

An evidentiary hearing for a soldier charged with raping three women over the past 21 years took just half an hour Monday, without a witness taking the stand.

Master Sgt. Michael Silva was charged with raping a woman in 1992 or 1993, and raping a recruit in basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in 1995. He also is accused of raping a third woman in 2007.

Two of the accusers are his ex-wives.

The case is the oldest to emerge in the worst sex scandal in Air Force history. So far, 35 basic training instructors at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland have been charged with misconduct with 71 recruits or technical school trainees.
