The F-35 program at Fort Worth-based Lockheed Martin Aeronautics has suffered a setback, as the Pentagon halted on-the-ground stress testing of the company's U.S. Marine Corps version because cracks were found on the plane's bulkheads.

Bloomberg reported that the testing could be halted for as long as a year.

The testing was stopped in September, Bloomberg said, after cracks were discovered in three of the six bulkheads on a plane being used for ground testing.

The F-35 program is the most expensive defense program in U.S. history with a projected price tag of $391 billion.
