As we noted in our coverage, on view below, the incident is especially noteworthy, because it appears to be the first accidental discharge of a gun on a Colorado campus by someone with the proper permit since the Colorado State Supreme Court ordered CU to allow such individuals to bring guns on campus.
As the police report confirms, Loeb had a Concealed Handgun Permit.
The lengthy report, from the University of Colorado Denver Police Department, says Loeb, a financial business manager for the School of Dental Medicine, had reported to police a suspicious person who appeared to be following her. In that case, no one was located or contacted. And because of recent incidents of theft on campus, as well as violence near her home, she had acquired a handgun, Loeb told police.

(60,567 posts)Too many people reach adulthood without being taught how to safely unload the most common types of firearms. Too many adults are unqualified to teach those simple procedures. Let professionals spend an hour or two with every high school student and show them the basics.

(3,291 posts)We see all kinds of health department messages for food safety, weather safety, immunization, smoking, texting, prescription and non-prescription drugs and sexually transmitted diseases. Gun safety should also be included. Not how to use them but common sense safety.

(120 posts)What should be taught in school is Gun are BAD, used and carried by BAD people, and you should never touch one. Use educators to fight America's gun obsession the same way we fight rascism! And reduce stupid gun deaths/injuries in the long run to boot!

(120 posts)of the donut-eaters in general, given their horrendous record on human rights, racial profiling, etc. Honestly, we'd probably have a more polite police force if we followed the British model and took away the average patrolman's firearm.
