Police arrested the driver, 24-year-old Jesus Gonzalez, for driving without a license and not wearing a seat belt. But a search of the vehicle turned up something not commonly found during routine traffic stops: 15 AK-style assault rifles.
Police suspect Gonzalez is in the country illegally. He was taken to Dallas County jail where he is being detained at the request of DPD. He has not yet been formally charged.
Police spokeswoman Sherri Jeffrey said the department has no information on how Gonzalez came to be in possession of such a large number of assault weapons, where they came from, or what he planned to do with them.

(2,477 posts)I think not. More than likely just semi auto clones of the AK-47 rifle. No more dangerous than any semi auto rifle like this one.

(250 posts)The 'undocumented gun dealer' did not have an early, original, probably full-auto milled-receiver military issue AK-47, photographed in a nice side view with high grade lighting and photo quality.
Is your photo from the police record of this event- the particular rifle featured and the photo quality say no.
It's like posting a photo of Joseph Stalin and claiming that it IS Joe Smith from down the block.
This is misleading, sloppy jounalism.

(2,477 posts)I highly doubt that your pic is a full auto AK-47.

(250 posts)one by one and verfied that they are machine guns?
If it's not a machine gun, it's not an "assault rifle".
So an undocumented gun dealer had a bunch of rifles... big deal. He must have tried to get an FFL several times and failed due to the hassle. Most importantly, though, he's just working to support his family.
And he's an undocumented driver.
And he's an undocumented immigrant. Heck, if he's in the drug selling business, he's probably also an undocumented pharmaceutical manufacturer, an undocumented business owner, an undocumented (fill in the blank)... What a bunch of suckers the medical and pharmaceutical industries are here- they should just totally choose to ignore the FDA while claiming sacred, unanswerable 'undocumented' status. Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance? Go home- we're going 'undocumented'!
I notice a pattern of contempt for, and abuse of, our law; fortunately for the suspect, as an undocumented immigrant, nobody can even think to raise such questions. Wow- wouldn't it be fun to operate like that, picking and choosing which laws to obey?
At least the probable cause wasn't DWB due to the illegal turn and seat belt.
Anyhow, let's get to the true purpose of this 'story':
* To evolve the connotation of 'assault weapon' to include common, semi-automatic rifles.
* To condition the electorate to tolerate, ignore, or support future semi auto gun ban drives.
