Banks and “concealed carry” laws

Laws allowing firearms to be carried into banks concern many bankers. Love them or hate them, concealed carry laws that allow citizens of a state to bear arms are here to stay.

Because of this, banks are faced with many questions regarding compliance with such laws and how to best protect the bank's customers and employees. The purpose of this FAQ is not to answer questions about specific states' laws, but to address some of the more common questions that bankers ask and issues that banks must consider in setting bank policy. Forty-nine states have concealed carry laws on the books. (Illinois is the only state that does not, nor does Washington D.C.) All answers provided in this article are as of October 2012.

you're probably a bad enough dude to ignore Gun-Free Zones. Or Target-Rich Environments, depending on your terminology.

That is NOT gunbusters sign, that circle has no bar across the gun. That is a guns-welcome sign.

Some of the banks are ok with it, other's are posted. Why they think it's safer to force people carrying large amounts of money to disarm I'll never understand.

but then demure when it comes to individual lives. They also seem fine with not protecting small amounts of money ("Just give them your wallet...&quot although they never seem to link various amounts to relative individual economic circumstances.

Interesting.. well... coincidence doesn't seem strong enough of a word, does it?

would stop people who are intent on robbing a bank?

Or do you feel that people will carry a gun in the bank with no ill intent then change their mind (perhaps after standing in line for a few minutes) and just decide randomly to rob the place since they have a gun handy?

The best way to protect their customers isn't working to help make them victims.

Back in the bad old days when we had to beg/bribe for a carry permit, folks with large sums of cash to be deposited were usually granted a permit. The banks didn't seem to mind their business. Peaceful people are not the problem. Bad guys - from Jesse James to gangbangers - don't read no gun signs.

It's just no big deal. Concealed means concealed and if it's riding in it's holster there is no danger.
