Democratic exodus over gun control

A Democratic exit from the state House of Representatives over a gun control bill in February led to some verbal sparring between Republican candidate Matt Alcazar and state Rep. Helen Miller during a Tuesday evening forum.

Miller, D-Fort Dodge, said the chamber's Democrats felt it was an appropriate response after the House Republican leaders surprised them with a revised gun control bill.

''There was no reason to leave the Statehouse,'' said Alcazar, a Republican from Fort Dodge who's challenging Miller for the House District 9 seat.

On Feb. 28, Democratic members of the House of Representatives walked out of the House chamber after being surprised by the Republican-written gun control bill. In February, Miller said the measure would allow people to ''pretty much take a gun anywhere you want.''

IMHO mine is worth everything...so why would I oppose expanding the places I can defend myself.

Now imagine what the lives of my family is worth.

If fear consumes you that much, then stay away from these places even if you are armed.

If you live in fear of your life by going to a place you can't carry, then don't go. Tadah! Problem solved.

and an essential component of situational awareness, it is in fact true that violent attacks (either personal or as the rare "mass" type) do indeed occur where and when we least expect. Who would expect it in a theater? A university lecture hall? A church? Who (as occurred a few days ago) would expect an attack on Austin's South Congress while folks were shopping and leaving a restaurant? Not many, including me.

But they occur nonetheless.

Shop online.

Maybe shopping at Walmart is a bad idea all the way around.

NO MATTER WHAT THEIR POLITICAL PARTY, should be publicly flogged, at minimum 20 lashes, and their entire pay/benefits package forfeited for the remainder of their term. If they do it again, life imprisonment in a Chinese coal mine.

It's childish fucking bullshit, and totally unacceptable behavior from "adults".

O.K., you're right. Anyone who doesn't like to face the fact that they lost should just walk away.

That'll solve everything, right?

There are zero details about the gun control bill so we really don't know what the issue was.

Secular just posts these things just to post. Them she must be getting paid by the number of threads she starts.

Here is a link to an article about the actual event

http://www.bleedingheartland.com/diary/5347/iowa-house-democrats-walk-out-rather-than-debate-gun-bills

House Joint Resolution 2009 would add these words to the Iowa Constitution: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." Gun advocates are clever to leave out the first clause of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which places the right to keep and bear arms in the context of "a well-regulated militia."

Please forgive the apparently RW source it was the first hit on Google

Edit After further perusal I thing this is actually a progressive website. the name threw me /Edit

Here is a link to the actual bill
