Teenage Girl Hurt in Accidental Shooting

13-year-old Summer Munyon may never talk again after she was shot in the neck late Friday night at 3200 Indianola Ave. in Des Moines.

Police took 16-year-old Christian Nico Gleason to a juvenile detention center after he told officers he accidentally fired the gun.

Munyon was near a playground inside Park Ridge Apartments where she was staying overnight with her sister.

She was with a group outside the apartment when Gleason removed a gun from his holster and accidentally shot Munyon, according to the police report.

So, what's your point?

If you want to have an accidental death toll party -- I will take cars over guns any day of the week.

And cars aren't protected by the Constitution.

What are 13 and 16-year-olds doing out at 11:30pm at night unsupervised?

And of course what is a 16-year-old doing with a concealed handgun, which it is already illegal for him to carry?

4 teens charged in shooting incident

PITTSFIELD -- Four young people, including a 12-year-old, are facing attempted murder and other charges in what police are calling a gang-related shooting over the weekend outside a house party. No one was hit by bullets.

The oldest, 18-year-old Caleb Pratt of Kellogg Street, was arraigned in Central Berkshire District Court on Monday. He pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and a single count of discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He was released afterward.

The other defendants are ages 12, 15, and 16. They, too, are facing the same set of charges. Since they are juveniles, no other information is available about their cases. It is unclear if they have been released from custody.

A group of between 8 and 12 teens showed up at a party on Second Street around midnight on Saturday "looking for trouble," according to a Pittsfield Police report.

You can be sure my kids won't be out at parties at midnight on Saturday nights when they are 12, 15, or 16.

Every child should be taught that a holstered gun stays holstered until there is a good reason to draw it, and the basics of how to safely draw a gun.
