Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumI want to rant. You don't need to reply if you disagree because this is just a rant
I am not looking for gun owners to support their position. I have heard and read it for months now.
My rant is this. Concerning the guy that shot his ass in a movie theater. Had I been there I could have gotten shot. It is a matter of chance where the bullet went. Anyone there could have gotten killed. Someone's kid could have been killed.
In the Aurora shootings 12 people were killed and a large number were wounded.
The people who could have been killed and those who were killed are victims. They are victims without any recourse.
Just about any place you go you could be shot today. There are no laws to prevent that. As it stands where ever you go a person could be carrying a gun and could accidentally or purposely kill you.
How is a dead person going to get any justice?
When we talk about rights, is there a right to life? The right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness is in the constitution.
Now if someone accidentally takes that right away by accidentally shooting you, you have no recourse.
You cannot scream "hey you are trampling on my rights!" you're fucking dead.

(5,455 posts)any numbers of ways just walking out the door and getting into your car. If you want safe, stay home and hope your dwelling doesn't catch fire, because life isn't safe and the gun laws aren't likely ever to be your satisfaction.
As for shit for brains in Nevada, yank his permit and make sure he doesn't get another in his lifetime.
And yes I own guns.

ETA I rarely respond to the content of a rant, but here I'll just say the world is a dangerous place. You are at far greater risk of being injured or killed in a traffic accident, or even a fall, than of being struck by a bullet from someone handling a firearm negligently in a public place. In the unlikely event that happens, it's very likely that you would survive. Your recourse, or "justice," would be to sue the perpetrator for damages.

Won't you be just a dead if you die from some other kind of accident?

Atypical Liberal
(5,412 posts)The fact of the matter is, there is no real justice for anyone who is killed or permanently maimed from anything. Whether it is from drunk drivers, getting acid thrown on you, or being raped, or being killed, victims of violent crime never get "justice" as in something that can make it all right again.
If your definition of "justice" is something that helps the victim, there is no such thing.
Just about any place you go you could be shot today. There are no laws to prevent that. As it stands where ever you go a person could be carrying a gun and could accidentally or purposely kill you.
This is technically true. But what is also true is that violent crime has been declining for decades. What is also true is people who lawfully carry concealed weapons are hardly every involved in any kind of crime, let alone firearm-related crime. You would be statistically safer surrounded only by CCW firearm carriers than by a random sampling of the public at large.
Events like the Aurora shootings are sensational but rare. Don't assess your safety by such events. It's like deciding it's not safe to walk outside because some people get hit by lightning.
