Gun Control & RKBA
Related: About this forumUpdate from Birmingham, MI
A jury in 48th District Court found Sean M. Combs, 18, not guilty of brandishing a firearm and disturbing the peace. Wednesday, Judge Marc Barron issued a directed verdict dismissing a charge of resisting and obstructing a police officer after Combs' attorney, James Makowski, argued that city attorney Mary Kucharek had not proven that offense.
"I think they came up with the right verdict," Combs said after his acquittal. "It took them a while, but at the end of the day, I think it was the right decision."

I doesn't sound like the DA had much of a case.

Let's analyze your train of thought.
You need to show your ID to engage in a public act.......... but not to vote?
sarisataka
(18,663 posts)if a young looking person is walking down the street with a 6-pack of PBR, can the police ask for ID?
PavePusher
(15,374 posts)in any state, they can not demand that you produce one. They can require that you identify yourself verbally, and they can then check that, as I understand it.
sarisataka
(18,663 posts)thanks
Oneka
(653 posts)Only if you are currently carrying. The state added this provision into their pistol carry law. It is the only place in any MN statute that specifically requires that you carry identification. https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=624.714
and that stems from a rancher in No. NV. who refused to identify himself on his own property. Went all the way to the SCOTUS.

Fine looking group of right wing gun Tbaggers.

Why is this tolerated here in "Gun Control & RKBA (Group)" but not elsewhere on D.U.?

(54,770 posts)abuse guns. I'm not saying everyone, but the majority of gun owners are right wingers, as are the big lobbying groups backing primarily right wing legislators and causes.
It's not difficult when taken in context - context is important - to guess the Tbag types. It would be good even if I only tested at 70% correct identification, and I can do better than that.

Seems to me you harbor a great deal of bigotry yourself.
Without a link or any other information, as far as I know those people could be "Democrats for open carry", or a "Pink Pistols" rally.
You want me to become just a biggoted.
Hoyt

It is painfully obvious you do not.
sarisataka
(18,663 posts)against either group. I consider them ill-informed racist dumb-asses who embarrass themselves every time they open their mouths.
But I will also acknowledge and support their right to open their mouths and embarrass themselves.
I do not believe they should be persecuted more than any other group, until they break the law. If they do break the law I believe they should receive due process and if convicted, their views may be considered in passing sentence.
I believe all bigotry is bad because I also believe the end does not justify the means.

"imbred look"? Stereotyping bigotry, much? And again... it's you. What defines this "imbred look" anyway?
"'assault' weapons"? I see nothing that indicates the presence of full-auto military/police/government agent sidearms.

As far as the rest of your statement.... you are attempting to extrapolate from zero, which anyone with a sound grounding in mathematics can tell you is, at best, a fool's errand.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)In this case, I have not extrapolated from zero. We both know what these folks are up to, and guns are central to their beliefs.

Isn't it considered poor taste to link to right wing websites?
permatex
(1,299 posts)They may be a RW militia, so what, are you saying that they should be taken down by LE and banned? If so, why?
I hate what RWingers stand for and believe in, doesn't mean I want to violated their civil rights. Until they break the law, they have every right to peacefully assemble, carry firearms, spout their racist shit.
It's called their CIVIL RIGHTS Hoyt, now we all know that if you had your way, you would shut down any group you don't agree with, but guess what? You don't get to do that.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)here. What they are doing is immoral, and just flat wrong -- it might be Constitutional, but it's wrong. And, so are you.
You need to understand that legal is not always right.
permatex
(1,299 posts)It's called the 1st Amendment.
You should heed your own advice.
It doesn't matter what I think, it's what the law of the land is.
It is immoral and wrong, thats where we agree, but it is their right and I will defend their right to believe what they believe in. Thats where you and most of the people here differ, we believe in civil rights for all, not just the ones we agree with.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)permatex
(1,299 posts)You don't have to accept anything, but the fact remains that civil rights cover all, not just those we agree with, whether you like it or not.
I don't like their racist shit either, but I do "accept" the fact that they have a fundamental right to spew it and I will always defend their right to spew, unlike you who would try to take away the civil rights of people you disagree with as proven by this:

But they're the bigots.... ri-i-i-ight.....

militia groups, gotta love em'. I say as long as they are not doing anything illegal, leave them alone to exercise their constitutional rights. The only real crime most of the time is the harassment these groups get from law enforcement. Many are under constant surveillance and the government is constantly trying to infiltrate their ranks. Bike gangs are far more dangerous.

(1,076 posts)any Arizona militia members has shot immigrants, illegal or not. Quite the contrary. It is well documented that civilian border patrol folks helped the people they encountered, giving them food, water and medical attention. Why don't you stop with the hyperbole and engage in some real conversation. I know you have more to offer than to constantly refer to people as racists and gun nuts, certainly you have some opinions on other issues.
referring to McVeigh he was not a militia member. He attended a couple of militia meetings and half-heartedly attempted to start a militia group in Arizona, which came to nothing. He never really joined anything. As far as bike gangs go follow the link and do some reading, you might find it interesting.[link:http://www.splcenter.org/blog/2008/10/24/mongols-indictment-details-motorcycles-gang%E2%80%99s-racism-alleged-crimes/|]
