back to LA's "buy back"

Here is a pic of the inert rocket launcher clearly marked "TRAINER"
It looks like an AT4 anti-tank weapon, much like the LAW. Both are disposable after the one shot.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT4

I get that the rocket launcher makes a great photo op, but here are my questions:
Is he insulting the intelligence of LA people by making a big deal out of a hollow piece of plastic?
Did the person who sold it to LAPD know that, or did they honestly think they were getting a dangerous weapon off the street?
If they really thought that, why didn't they just call the ATF to come and get it for free before?

Like the M-79, the plastic is only strong enough for one shot. That is how trainers are "made". That is what the Air Force does with nonfunctioning stuff. If you need a gas mask, don't grab the one marked "for training use only"

1) Some devious criminal painted "TRAINER" on the tube to fool the police, and
2) the rocket is still out there, to be used in crime. Time for another buyback!

On edit, it looks like your pic link didn't work (at least not for me), so here's what I'm guessing it was:

They can have their photo op, I can get 200.00. Not a bad deal. I believe I paid 8 bucks for it at an military surplus store. That would be quite a return on investment.
