<SNIP>
Sen. Constance Johnson, a chairwoman of the caucus, said the shooting deaths of several black Tulsa residents on Good Friday as well as the death of a Del City man at the hands of a police officer in March are reminders that violence is a pervasive and ongoing problem.
"And there's so many instances we have forgotten them," Johnson, D-Oklahoma City, said. "These are all policies that are going in the wrong direction when you talk about alleviating violence in society."

(6,185 posts)It's more actual work than he or any of the other gun control "fans" here have done in the real world in years.
Or ... do you think it was just a rhetorical "applaud" ... and they still are just sitting with thumbs firmly inserted and just posting phony hype?
When all you have to get excited about is an article in a gun grabbing newspaper by gun control supporters you're pretty close to rock bottom as far as "backlash" goes.

(6,185 posts)I know your regular Google dumps gets you all excited and such, but a few articles in typically anti gun media about gun control people whining again isn't really much of a backlash.
Now if they could actually point to a few examples of places where "Stricter gun-control legislation would decrease violent crime" actually happened, they might be taken a bit more seriously. But your other "google dump post 'o the day" refers to the shootings in Chicago, where you already have your ideal stricter gun control utopia and deaths are up 60% over last year.
Sure, by actually writing a letter to the editor or drafting a POV editorial, they've done far more than you and your little friends here, who just sit on your ass and post angry, poorly informed screeds, but still - it's not much of a backlash.
I'm just guessin' here, but I don't think Wayne LaPierre is losing sleep over your efforts and Castle and SYG laws will stay in place when it's all said and done.

Emanuel: Long-Term Strategies Needed To Lower Spiking Crime
April 12, 2012 1:29 PM
CHICAGO (CBS) Facing a setback in efforts to reduce gun violence and make Chicago a safer place to live, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Thursday that police are focusing on long-term strategies to target street gangs.
As CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports, although overall crime is down 10 percent compared to this time last year, murders are up 60 percent during the first three months of the year.
There have been 120 murders in Chicago through the end of March this year, compared to 75 during the same time last year.
Shootings are also up significantly: 37 percent over 2011.

(6,185 posts)I've finally learned that the dreaded and oft promised "backlash" actually consists of a handful of bobbleheads (smile, nod, sit, do nothing real) writing the same angry letters to the editor and an occasional editorial that can be easily cut and pasted on message boards like this. It makes them feel morally superior and that's really what matters.
Then ... they can claim victory for gun control and use it as proof that the vast silent majority of Americans support their POV. They are "silent" because they don't seem to ever actually vote, support gun control organizations or actually ever do anything about it.
The fact that actual pro 2nd amendment laws are being regularly passed and signed by the people elected to do so, in more and more states, doesn't really matter that much as a counterbalance to the backlash.
Once you understand what the backlash really is and how "effective" it can be, it gets much easier to place the proper value on it.

(12,072 posts)Right now I have several threads running about states that have enacted pro-gun laws. All you have is some newspaper editorials.
