Survey on RKBA and gun control

I'm doing this as a favor for someone doing research. I hope it doesn't break any DU rules...
It takes about 15 minutes, and I found it pretty interesting. Challenging too.

It needs respondents from both gun-rights and gun-control advocates.

1. I took this survey last week...

And I had a brief contact with the researcher behind it

It seems legit - above board.

His focus is much more narrow than the broad brush "Gun Good/Gun Bad" who ya got? survey nonsense.

I asked if he was concerned that including liberal gun rights advocates in the RKBA forum might skew his numbers since most 2A advocates are right wingers and he explained it this way:
" I am looking for responses from the more vocal among gun-rights and gun-control advocates, regardless of ideological preference. My research interest is in group membership decision-making.
That is, I am looking for differences between those who do and those who do not join/donate to membership groups like the Brady Campaign or the NRA."

It included a timed knowledge assessment that I found rather fun - I admit to being a puzzle/quiz/trivia kind of guy.

3. Just took it...

one major flaw I saw was that there was no delineation of any timeframe for membership in any of the organizations. I am not a current member, but was a member of the NRA for a year or so in the mid-1970's. (There was a huge discount offered at the completion of a mandatory NY State hunters' safety class, along with a few other benefits, and I took advantage of it. Cheaper access to the range for practice and training was a big part - and I more than made up for my membership fees.) Giving a timeframe, and possibly reasons for staying or leaving the organization would probably help to fill in gaps in the information. As it is now, it can be taken that I was very recently a member...and not just a member for a short time when the leadership of the organization was not a purely political right-wing cesspool.

7. I agree. In the 90s I donated to the 2nd Ammendment Defense Fund...

For a couple years.

Then their literature started getting more and more RWNJ and vaguely racist. So I quit.

Fast forward several years and I joined the Liberal Gun Club, but how can this survey suss out any gaps in memberships and motivations for changing?

I hope that "cmhfnd" is keeping tabs on these discussions, and that he posts a link to his completed dissertation.

for your observation SeattleVet. I agree that it is less than ideal. I included a followup question for the concern that you and MSgt raise here. At least I hope it showed up when you took the survey (lol). When discussing the questions with members I know, truncating the survey to a reasonable duration, and developing questions to match my hypotheses, I had to alter the membership question.

My apologies, if the survey gave that impression to you. It definitely was not my intent to give an NRA bend to the questions. I am focused on distinguishing among members, non-members, and those who've switched groups. Unfortunately, I am not getting many non-member respondents.

I do think it is effective in showing the slant of a persons ideas as well as a way to source their source of knowledge or lack there of..

Suppressor and silencer were options and either would be correct.
