Kindergartner suspended for bringing bubble gun to class

BRIGHTON, Colo. -- A 5 year-old girl was suspended from kindergarten on Monday for bringing a gun to Southeast Elementary School.

It sounds alarming, but the weapon was a bubble gun, a popular plastic toy sold at stores across Colorado.

If they had contacted me and said can you make sure this doesn’t happen again, we just want you to be aware, I think that would have been a more appropriate way to handle the situation. Could we have a warning? It blows bubbles,” she said.

Emma said she never would have knowingly let her daughter bring the toy to school. She said her daughter put it in her backpack without telling her. But the school is sticking to its guns, calling the toy a safety concern and a classroom distraction.

Its one thing to spew the "guns have only one purpose" talking point (in spite of it being false), but its quite another when the anti-gun mindset leads to bans even on things designed to put a smile on a childs face.

On edit: They should take the gun (gun? It's a fucking bubble blower!) out of the classroom, without separating the child from her education! This is really stupid! What does it accomplish to disrupt the routines of everybody?

is just another example of the zero tolerance policy, it started in 99 after the columbine shooting and has only gotten worse.

i graduated high school in 03. we weren't given lockers, just about every tool in wood-shop was considered a weapon, and they tightly controlled/restricted what we could do in chemistry.
