Parents Could Be Held Liable for Leaving Loaded Gun With Young Kids

An impending bill in Tennessee could make parents liable for leaving loaded guns in areas where their children have access. The new legislation is aimed at stopping cases of accidental firing of young individuals.

According to WMC Action News 5, parents in the said state will be more responsible in handling and storing their guns once the bill is passed. It noted that moms and dads could face criminal charges if they violate the said law.

To date, there are reportedly 27 states which have the same law and Tennessee is expected to send this bill to the Senate this coming month. "If you're going to have a gun, you should be held accountable for what's done with the gun," said resident Talisha Ingram in the WMC Action News 5 report.

It was also noted that Memphis Senator Sara Kyle and Nashville Rep. Sherry Jones are the two persons behind the passing of the bill. They are bent on punishing parents and guardians who leave their loaded guns accessible to youngsters 13 years old and below.

Jail, loss of kids, loss of all future gun rights.

Do you leave attack dogs around your kids when you go out? Acetylene torches? Meat slicers?

Guns are a sexual fetish object for many Americans. They don't even understand what guns can do until their dead kid or friend is lying in the ground. Most American gun owners have never experienced a shot fired in anger and have no idea if they could keep their shit under pressure. Instead guns are toys and fantasy objects to make them "feel" tough and strong and safe.

My kids say home with the DDR GSD and firearms. They have to go out to the garage to get to the cutting torches and mig.

Our meat slicers all have handles and store in the cabinets so I guess they have access to those also. LOL

A key feature of Internet discourse is that anyone can claim nearly anything they want with no accountability. For example, many gun nutters claim military experience, as did many of the nutters who occupied Malheur with Ammon and the Ammosexuals. Many times such people are lying, or they grossly inflate honorable behind-the-lines experience to include ferocious combat they never saw. It's a macho posturing thing and most actual combat vets do NOT go around bragging about what they've seen. In fact many refuse to ever talk about it at all except with people who were there.

So I could tell you my stories and you could decide whether to believe me entirely based on whether you agreed with me politically.

A close friend of mine was just shot to death, for example, which has me spitting mad at gun nuttery. Do you believe me? It happens to be true.

As I sometimes say in gun arguments I am no stranger to guns. Which is why I think most gun nutters are lying about their own levels of experience or confusing playing Call of Duty with reality. It's all mostly masculine fantasy compensation.

All written discourse is scripted.

And you just proved my point. You don't agree with me so you can choose to reject anything I say as untrue. That's how the gun nutter "script" plays out. At the extreme it's the Sandy Hook Truther bullshit syndrome.

I won't play your game. My claim is that most gun nutters who insist that a gun makes them safer have no experience of guns used in aggressive ways and have no idea how they would react in a threat situation. That's a proven fact.

Rhetorical games: get me to claim some specific experience and then say I'm lying. It's the "scripted" NRA playbook.

Here's how those who know can tell what I have seen: I never want to talk about it.

to forming the viewpoint you express here (two dimensional as it is) can be regarded as suspicious. If military, at least the branch and date of service would be very beneficial for you. Or is that too traumatizing?

I think it's pretty obvious from the posts that this is not the intent, so authenticity is... well... moot.

I am particularly amused by his or her declarations that they are infuriating others, who show no such fury, and then making it a point to state that they have been ignored. Yep, that'll learn 'em!

Lol.

You don't get it. I could make up anything just like Internet RKBA guys make up bullshit.

My views do not require my biography for clarity. But if they did, no one on the internet knows if anyone else is telling the truth. This site is fulbof people making shit up to sound authoritative, and I damn well include phony military experience claims.

So funny how much my refusal to play into your gun nutter rhetorical games bothers y'all.

I am not basing my position on whether I have seen combat or gun violence. That has nothing to do with anything I said. What I said was objectively true: the majority of RKBA zealots have never seen a gun battle or seen someone shot. Some may be veterans but even most veterans never saw combat up close. These are facts. Therefore most gun nutters are fantasizing when they imagine themselves as gun-fightin' cowboy soldiers and bluster about "protecting" themselves or "taking out" bad guys.

What I have personally experienced has nothing to do with the veracity or validity of that statement. Your demand for it is childish playground bully bullshit. As soon as I said a thing you'd say I was lying because yes, what I've actually seen is pretty fucking unreal. And that is a big reason I think gun nutters who DO claim experience with gun violence up close are fucking liars who make shit up like middle aged Walter Mittys on every macho Internet discussion.

The word is "disingenuous." You has it.

Go on wondering what I know and see if it bothers me. Or go back to playing Call of Duty until mom calls you for snacks.

Of course you could. And you could veil it in some vague allusions so that it would give you an air of authority. Which you did.

My views do not require my biography for clarity.

So why did you even mention it?

As soon as I said a thing you'd say I was lying because yes, what I've actually seen is pretty fucking unreal.

See? There you go again. Just can't help yourself, can you?

Please note that only one person here has made claims to firsthand experience of lethal violence, and I am not that person.

And that is a big reason I think gun nutters who DO claim experience with gun violence up close are fucking liars who make shit up like middle aged Walter Mittys on every macho Internet discussion.

Should we have laws for parents who leave booze/dope in accessible areas leaving their kids alone and
the car keys accessible?

Or just leave laws already on the books in place covering child endangerment and enforcing them accordingly ?
At some point adding new laws to do the same as old laws becomes ridiculous.

I don't know if you can legislate bad parenting, leaving a loaded weapon and kids alone with
access just screams incompetent parenting.

Same for the knife block in an open area, cleaning supplies in reach, prescriptions in the open, access to the swimming pool.

There's just no easy answer for parents lacking common sense to leave ANY dangerous article in
access to children unsupervised. My sibling stuck a fork tine in a 110 socket at 2yrs old, but the
parents didn't hide the silverware after that.

There's no problem punishing bad parents for lack of common sense. In my parts if your child isn't in an approved car seat you'll not only get a unsecured child citation, but can also be arrested for child abuse/endangerment, have the car towed and kids put in the child welfare facility.
